Obituary

On April 9th 1929, It was a joyous occasion as William and Marion Joseph welcomed their second child, a bouncing baby girl name Albertha Elizabeth Joseph. William was adamant that she was given the name of his beloved mother Albertha Brent from Castries, St. Lucia.

Albertha was always a loving and kind person. She studied at an all-age school and became an avid reader. Her favorite pastime was completing cross word puzzles, reading novels and daily reading the local newspaper.

At the age of eighteen (18) years old she married the love of her life Clyde Eugene Wilkinson. This union was blessed with eleven children. They were married until his untimely demise at fifty-five (55) years old. She devoted her life to raising her children and faithfully serving her God.

After the death of her husband, she enrolled at the college of the Bahamas to learn cake decorating and was inspired to become a wonderful baker. She loved to bake cakes and was known for making the best hot cross buns and bread in Nassau Bahamas. These goods were sold to the Ministry of Works and the American Embassy every Tuesday and Thursday.

Albertha was a member of Our Ladies Catholic Church where her two first children were christened. One day while sitting on her porch through Dunmore Street, a member of the Grant’s Town Seventh Day Adventist Church approached her and gave her a tract to read. Once she read the pamphlet she was intrigued and decided to visit the church.

After attending several sabbath services and being deeply moved by the presence of the Holy Spirit, she surrendered her life to Christ and became a faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Albertha served the Church as a Deaconess, a Social Worker, and Bible Worker. She ensured that her family was her first ministry, often conducting bible studies with her family and friends.

Every Friday she prepared her meals for the sabbath for her children and any of the neighborhood children who visited. She enjoyed spending her days with her family, walking on the park near her home, or sitting on the beach enjoying a fried snapper dinner.

Albertha was very active in the ministry of winning souls for Christ. Each person she came in contact with, would not leave her side without hearing about the love of Jesus Christ. On Sundays, Albertha would go to Sandilands Rehabilitation Center to visit the Geriatrics ward with her granddaughter Skye, carrying various baked goods to give out to the patients.

She was known as the prayer warrior in the family and would often receive calls from loved ones requesting prayers for various issues. Her faith was unshakable. To begin her day, she would read her bible and as her eyesight deteriorated, she used a magnifying glass to continue her studies. She prayed, morning, noon and night and would often talk to God throughout the day. More importantly, she made sure that her children and grandchildren dedicated time each day to reading and studying

a heart attack and was hospitalized for two weeks. While in hospital, she often witnessed to other patients and prayed for those who came to visit her. On March 3rd 2025, Albertha again became ill. During this time, she continued to witness to her family and friends from her sick bed. She was often heard quoting bible scriptures from memory and would at times pray even while she slept.

On April 7th 2025, her job here on earth was done and her heavenly Father called her home. She peacefully slipped away surrounded by her beloved family. Her life was a testimony of faith and her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Albertha was predeceased by her husband Clyde Eugene Wilkinson and her daughters Brenda, Christina and Valeria Wilkinson and Helena (Lionel)Munroe.

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN | My Jesus I love thee

1 My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine; for thee all the follies of sin I resign; my gracious Redeemer, my Savior art thou; if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.

2 I love thee because thou hast first loved me and purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree; I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow; if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.

3 I’ll love thee in life, I will love thee in death, and praise thee as long as thou lendest me breath, and say when the deathdew lies cold on my brow: If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.

4 In mansions of glory and endless delight, I’ll ever adore thee in heaven so bright; I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow: If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.

BENEDICTION/HYMN | Farther Along

1 Tempted and tried we’re oft made to wonder, Why it should be thus all the day long; While there are others living about us, Never molested though in the wrong.

Refrain:

Farther along we’ll know all about it, Farther along we’ll understand why; Cheer up, don’t worry, live in the sunshine, We’ll understand it all by and by.

2 When death has come and taken our loved ones, It leaves our home so lonely and drear; Then do we wonder why others prosper, Living so wicked year after year. [Refrain]

3 Faithful till death said our loving Master, A few more days to labor and wait; Toils of the road will then seem as nothing, As we sweep through the beautiful gate. [Refrain]

4 When we see Jesus coming in glory, When He comes from His home in the sky; Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion, We’ll understand it all by and by. [Refrain]

MESSAGES TO THE GREAT-GRANDS FROM GRAMMY ALBERTHA WILKINSON

Dated September 17, 2020

TO PREMIE:

TO JO’HIRI:

I love you, but Jesus loves you best. I want you to grow up to love the Lord and to be obedient to your parents. Love your brother and sister.

Love, Grammy.

TO DOMINIQUE:

I love you. As young as you are, you love to pray to God. I pray you grow up to continue loving the Lord and being obedient to your mother. Love, Grammy.

I love you. I want you to have good echoes for Dominique and continue to sing for the Lord.

TO THE OLDER GIRLS:

I want to encourage you to surrender your hearts to the Lord. Put Jesus first in your life—even above your parents. As a Christian, your body is supposed to be covered. Do not follow fashion. Ask the Lord to help you keep your virginity. Put your trust in God. I love you.

Dear Grammy, You were the best prayer warrior ever. When I die and go to heaven, I will hug and kiss you. I love you so much and I miss you. You was everything to me. I wish you was alive to read the Lord’s word to us one more time. The family misses that.

Love Noah-Carter

D

ear Grammy, I love you so much. I wish you were here to hear me pray every morning and night. You were everything to my family and I will always love you.

Love Dominique

Mommy you will always be in my heart. Love Your Daughter Edrean.

MOMMY, YOU WERE THE EPITOME OF A TRUE CHRISTIAN WOMAN.

Growing up, the Word wasn’t just something we heard on Saturdays—it was alive in our home, because it was alive in you. Even at 96, your spirit shined brightly. You continued to speak blessings over your children and grandchildren, and you prayed for others more than you did for yourself.

You were a woman of prayer, always reminding us never to open our eyes in the morning without first thanking God for the gift of life. And every night, before closing them again, you would ask Him to forgive your sins—both knowingly and unknowingly.

Mommy, I always say that if there’s one person I aspire to emulate, it’s you. You walked in the footsteps of Jesus with grace and unwavering faith. And by following your example, I know I’m walking the right path too.

I love you deeply, Mommy—but I know Jesus loves you best.

Rest well, my love. Your precious daughter, Ginger Evans

In 1989, I met this beautiful young lady, Mrs. Wilkinson. In 1992 one day after losing my mother, she said to me “I can’t take the place of your mother, but if you let me I will be a mother to you”. From that day the bond we had was never broken. Grammy, I will always love you. Your daughter Angie.

MY DEAREST GRAMMY,

You left me heartbroken, but through your passing, I’ve come to see the lasting impact you’ve had on my life. You were a god-fearing woman, and it is because of you that my own faith has grown stronger. You taught me the power of prayer, the importance of faith, and, above all, how to live with love, and kindness. One of my favorite memories will always be the Bi ble drills we did daily, you made learning scripture fun, and I looked forward to those moments together. They weren’t just games—they were moments of connection, joy, and spiritual growth that shaped my heart in ways I’m only now beginning to understand.

I also cherish how you spent time with Dominique, teaching her how to pray and going over Bible lessons with her. The love you showed her and the faith you shared will stay with her for ever, just as it has with me. You helped plant the seeds of faith in her heart, and I know she will carry those lessons with her always.

One of the greatest gifts you gave me was showing me how to care for others. I’ll never forget the Sundays we spent together at Sandilands Geriatric Centre, visiting the elderly. As a young girl, those visits opened my eyes to the joy and fulfillment that comes from helping those who need it most.

We shared such a special bond. You taught me how to bake, and you had such patience with me especially when I messed up the cake. You never got upset, only smiled, and helped me try again. For that I will always hold your recipes close to my heart. They are not just recipes they are reminders of your love, your guidance, and the sweet memories we created together. Even when your hearing began to fade, I never minded repeat ing myself no matter how many times it took just to make sure you could hear me. And I always made sure to bring back your change when you sent me to the food store, because I knew how much trust you placed in me even with the little things and I never wanted to let you down. We will continue to keep the Sabbath just as you taught us. That is the promise we make in your honor, to carryon your devo tion, your reverence and your love for your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Thank you, Grammy, for everything. You will forever be in my heart, and I will carry the lessons you taught me for the rest of my life.

Love you, Your Grand-Daughter Skye Seymour

DEAR GRAMMY

I would like to thank you for instilling so much love and tender care into our family and into me in particular. My very last memory at our last family gathering, you reminded me of your Christmas Gift. Each year from I started working over thirty (30) years ago, I would buy three gifts for my three earthly Gods, My Mother Helena, Aunt Shirley and for my Grandmother Albertha. Both my mom and aunt have already taken their rest and now you grammy are the last one to fall asleep in Christ. The last time we spoke grammy you reminded me that you had not gotten your gift as yet. I told you that I gave the money to Cherry. You laughed and said You give that to Cherry, I will never see that. Then you smiled and said anyway Cherry does take care of me anyhow. I will forever miss your sense of humor and ability to find joy in every situation. You often would talk to all of us about surrendering our hearts to God and you never stopped giving us unconditional love. We will miss you Grammy, take your well-deserved rest.

I will love you forever, Your Grandson Caro Munroe

TO GRAMMY BERTHA, THE WORLD’S GREATEST AND STRONGEST MATRIARCH.

You had a heart big enough to embrace generations. You gave us the perfect roadmap for love and how a family should live and pray together. You carried yourself with grace, humility, and a quiet strength that could steady anyone who came near you.

Your faith was unshakeable, and your prayers were powerful. Whether it was a gentle word, a shared story, or simply your presence in the room, you brought peace and comfort like only a grandmother can. You never let us feel like anything less than your own.

Rest in peace, Grammy Bertha.

Thank you for loving us like only you could.

CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF ALBERTA A LIFE OF LOVE, FAITH, AND GENEROSITY

Today we gather to honor and celebrate the beautiful life of Albertha, a woman whose kindness, faith, and generosity touched many lives. Though she passed just before her 96th birthday, her legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Albertha was the embodiment of selflessness. With her hands, she kneaded love into every loaf of bread and baked warmth into every cake, sharing them not only with her family but also with her friends, church members, and even the elderly in homes for the aged. Her kitchen was a place of blessings, and her gifts of food were more than just nourishment - they were acts of love, a reminder that she cared deeply for those around her.

A faithful servant of God, Albertha was an active member of her church, always ready to support programs and Christian education, and uplift her spiritual community. Her steadfast faith was an inspiration, and her commitment to serving others reflected the very heart of the gospel. She didn’t just speak of love - she lived it, day after day, in quiet, meaningful ways.

To her family, Albertha was a treasure - a loving presence whose thoughtfulness knew no bounds. Whether through her baking, her prayers, or her unwavering support, she made sure her loved ones knew they were cherished. Though we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing that her kindness, her laughter, and her gentle spirit will be remembered.

As we bid farewell to Cousin Albertha, we do so with gratitude for the nearly 96 years she was with us, through God’s blessing. Though she has left our sights, her legacy of faith, generosity, and love will always be in our hearts.

To her family, we offer our deepest condolences!
