THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead.

On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins. the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Tribute to Sadie

Sadie was my dear friend for over 30 years. We first met at work and perhaps it was coincidenceor perhaps destiny- but as we were both born in January, we formed an immediate and lasting friendship.

Sadie or “ SPOD” as I affectionately called her from time to time, had a truly beautiful spirit. She was kind, caring, generous, respectful and delightfully humorous, even mischievous at times.

In my professional capacity as her supervisor, I came to admire her dedication and professionalism. She was always receptive to guidance and eager to engage in meaningful conversation to ensure she fully understood her responsibilities. An attentive listener, she quickly mastered the concepts of her role as Parliamentary Counsel.

As a friend, Sadie was always responsive, thoughtful, dependable and always willing to go the extra mile to help others. Her graciousness was ever-present, and she never failed to express gratitude for even the smallest act of assistance.

Although our paths parted when she moved on to the Central Bank, our friendship continued. We didn’t speak every day, but we would “shout” each other regularly-definitely for our birthdays and at Christmas and we certainly checked in on each other just for so. She would message “You good?” or “You going to the Nicholas Branker concert?” One message would lead to another and then to an hour-long phone call where we would chat about everything and nothing. Catching up with her was always a joy.

Sadie was fun! Even when discussing something serious she somehow found a way to inject a little humour and lighten the mood. She had that gift of making you feel comfortable and happy.

Her warmth, kindness and light will stay with me forever. I count myself truly blessed to have known her.

Sadie joined the Chief Parliamentary Counsel’s Office in the 1990s and it did not take long to discover what a wonderful addition she was. She produced exemplary work and was dedicated to duty and diligent. She was a person who valued the opinion and input of others regardless of age or experience, a trait that made junior staff feel especially appreciated. But it was also soon obvious that this bubbly character was not all about work. Sadie was the one person we could count on in the Office when it came to having a good time.

A most memorable event was Sadie’s involvement in the retirement function for a beloved Secretary. The novel idea was thrown out to have the function on a cruise ship; and Sadie sprang into action. She made the initial contacts which set the ball rolling for a much anticipated, lavish extravaganza on the Adventure of the Seas cruise ship and, along with other on the planning team (Arlene, Suzette and Claudia) worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was a resounding success. A lyricist extraordinaire, Sadie penned and delivered a poem in honour of the retiree; and that poem is still a talking point to this day. She had that kind of impact!

Everyone in the Office loved and cherished Sadie and fondly referred to her as SPOD (if you know you know). We were fortunate to have met her and worked with her. We will always remember her as a cheerful, uplifting person. She left the Office to pursue other opportunities; but she would check in now and then. Sadie never forgot us, and we certainly will never forget her.

I don’t know where to start ~ countless memories of hanging out in her room, from Enterprise to the Deanery, Elizabeth Park and then Culpepper. Countless birthday breakfasts and brunches. She always used to say I should carry my head high because I’m privileged enough to share a birthday with her which I always found hilarious because she was the biggest scaredy cat I’ve ever met. For a couple of years she insisted I rearranged my travel plans so we could have breakfast before my flights on our birthday. She was always a constant support, one of the few people I couldn’t hide how I truly felt on the inside. She was my cousin but I always saw her as my cool aunty who was in touch with everything. I will forever cherish the memories. We truly had a unique and special bond.

Sadie’s Auntie Doreen said that she was such a devoted niece, every time she came to England she would make sure that she visited her even though it was out of her way, her kindness knew no bounds.

Sadie was a caring cousin and always made sure she checked to see how I was when I was in hospital. She had a great sense of humour and did not mind the nickname I gave her which was SPOD, Sadie Patricia Octavia Dixon. I was never very good at remembering people’s middle names but I always remembered hers. I always had a strong admiration for her being a successful career woman and having the ability to travel around the world. She was a great inspiration to women and young girls. We will miss her dearly.

We are so heartbroken over the passing of our cousin Sadie. Sadie is someone who always lit up a room, with her infectious energy, big smiles, and her love.

Distance never stopped us from being close. We have so many fond memories with Sadie, from her frequent visits to us in the UK, to our visits to Barbados! She always filled our lives and these visits with so much fun and laughter, and was always so present in our lives, therefore we have so many beautiful memories with her! Dancing in Barbados, singing at parties with her in England, all the chaotic Christmas FaceTime calls, and so much more! The younger generation of cousins do not remember a time before knowing Sadie, as she has always been a huge part of our lives, an important member of our big family.

We already miss her presence, her constant support and love through the technology and social media that always helped us keep in touch, and we just cannot believe she’s no longer with us Earth side. A fun, fierce, intelligent and inspirational woman who is missed by so many. Our lives will never be the same.

We are so grateful for Sadie and the memories we have all shared together. Rest in eternal peace Sadie, we love you always.

Sadie was a warm, caring and forgiving soul, always easy to talk to and share a laugh with.

I’ll cherish the plans we made October 2025 to explore Barbados beaches to continue our pow wows with snow cones and fishcakes whenever I was on island.

Sadie became the anchor of the Dixon clan after Aunty Wilma passed, her love for family shone in everything she did. She even spoke of plans to update and maintain the Howlers Book!

Sadie was a treasure in our family. Her infectious laugh and jovial demeanour endeared her to us. She remembered and called for each birthday. Sadie held a special bond with her Uncle Pearson whom she referred to as her “Favourite Uncle.” We will never forget that as a young girl, whenever Sadie was ill, on hearing that Uncle Pearson was coming she miraculously felt better.

We admired her style and grace, and were proud of her many achievements. Our family has lost a gem.

I will always remember Sadie’s joy and kindness. From babysitting my brothers and I as children to celebrating my wedding and the birth of my first child, she was always there with love and generosity. Though the years passed, I thank God for the blessing of her presence and the memories she leaves behind.

Sadie was such a wonderful cousin, she always made sure that she kept in touch with her cousins in the UK, we always spoke about how even though we grew up 4000 miles apart we managed to remain close and be good friends, we messaged each other every week.

I am so thankful that I was able to spend a couple of days with Sadie when I was in Barbados recently, she use to message me every day and call me every day to see how I was and what my plans were for the day. I was absolutely devasted and shattered when CherriAnn called me to tell me that Sadie had passed.

I remain thankful that Sadie was such a big part of my life, I miss her every day. I am however grateful to have the wonderful memories that I have of her.

Sadie will be such a great loss to many people.

Tribute to Sadie (Slim Sadie)

Our dear cousin Sadie — or Slim Sadie, as my dad Carl lovingly called her — was a ray of beautiful sunshine, always full of life. Her positivity was infectious, and her deep love for family shone through in everything she did.

We share so many fond memories together — from our visits to Barbados, to the times she came to London with Cherri and the girls and stayed at Mum and Dad’s to sharing birthday love via WhatsApp and FaceTimes at Christmas. I’ll always remember our chats about the latest soca hits leading up to Kadooment Day, and how she’d post her joyful videos dancing during Crop Over. Sadie truly loved her soca, and she brought that same joy and rhythm into all our lives.

Our world will never be quite the same without her. She will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered with a smile.

AN APPRECIATION FOR THE LIFE, WITNESS, AND MINISTRY OF

MS. SADIE DIXON, LLB, LLM, LEC

CHANCELLOR OF THE ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF BARBADOS

The saying is true that “In the midst of life we are in death” as I reflect on the sudden passing of my close friend, sister in Christ and our Diocesan Chancellor, Ms. Sadie Dixon, on the evening of October 6, 2025. We first met and interacted as young children when our fathers were both priests of neighboring parishes – Sadie’s father was the Rector of St. Christopher, while my dad was the Rector of Christ Church Parish Church.

One of our most memorable conversations was on April 22, 2018, the Sunday prior to the start of the election process of a bishop for our Diocese, when Ms Dixon asked if it was likely that I would be nominated as one of the candidates. I immediately responded that it was not likely and that I preferred to continue as a parish priest. However, when it was announced on November 16, 2018, of my selection by the House of Bishops, the following Sunday, she not only congratulated me but remarked that she was not surprised by the selection because she felt I would rise to this position one day. She also offered me best wishes and pledged her support.

Upon the retirement of the former Chancellor, Ms. Mary Haynes, the choice of Ms. Sadie Dixon becoming my next legal advisor and Chancellor of the Diocese was a natural one, which she readily accepted and immediately applied herself with great enthusiasm. She served our Diocese for just over four years. Even though it was a relatively short period of time, she was exceptional in this role, enabling us to progress in the ongoing review to update our Diocesan Constitution, Canons and Regulations, and very instrumental in assisting in the completion of the development and approval of the Diocese’s Code of Conduct. Ms. Dixon also guided our Diocesan Synod in the approval of a number of Resolutions to enable our Diocese to become more current and less discriminatory. Despite her busy work schedule at the Central Bank where she last served as the Bank Secretary, Ms. Dixon ensured that she found time to attend and host many meetings to accomplish the Church’s work and was often available to receive my calls or messages when I needed an urgent response to some critical matters.

I will truly miss her friendship, forthrightness, wise and professional counsel, and having her as one of my confidants in ministry. Sadie was a woman of deep faith, very jovial, kindhearted, meticulous and action oriented. She was incredibly committed to our Church at the local and diocesan levels, offering much of her time, talent, and resources in God’s service for the building up of His Church. One of her sayings to me in recent times was “Let us land some planes,” and that was to inspire us to complete a number of tasks.

I truly thank God for this gem of a lady who sought to live her best self and life for Him and others. Our Diocese has lost one who we believe had so much more to offer God’s Church but He has called her home, and we resolve that God knows best even when we don’t understand all there is to know.

On behalf of the entire Diocese and my family, I extend sincere condolences to Sadie’s father - The Very Reverend William Dixon, Dean Emeritus of the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels; her siblings - Cherri-Ann and Adrian; her nieces - Jahzara and Solange; other relatives and friends, church families, and work colleagues particularly at the Central Bank of Barbados. We join you in prayer as we hold fast to our faith and the blessed assurance that our dear sister in Christ is now abiding in the nearer and eternal presence of our God. May the soul of Sadie and the souls of all the faithfully departed rest in peace. Amen.

Tribute to Sadie

Erdiston Model Mixed School was indeed a special place that molded us and was the foundation of beautiful friendships. Even though time, distance, different institutions of education and paths taken, the friendships forged have grown over the years. Sadie was an integral part of each of our lives, in many ways and though closer to some than others, her vitality, love of family, culture, keen insights and wit were aspects of her life that we all shared and loved.

Her love of Edwin, Krosyah, calypso and Barbadian culture in all art forms was known by all. Celestine remembers them bonding over the smoothness of Edwin’s voice. Joyann and Sadie shared a love of all things Morris Chestnut and would often share photos. She also noted that Sadie had strong political views but always respected the views of others.

Verla remembers Sadie being committed to whatever she chose to do. She took her faith, church and work seriously. She loved to hang out and let her hair down and her friendships meant the world to her. Sadie lived for her nieces and was always their chief cheerleader, which was an admirable quality.

Bertha shared that Sadie was particularly fond of acting and would support the arts in whatever way she could. Their last exchange was about her getting back to acting professionally by auditioning for a new company.

Rasheeda remembers Sadie enjoying mingling with friends, her love for her family, her nieces being her all and Daddy Dix who was her light. Her faith remained unwavering and they had many conversations on this even though it remains one of the topics Rasheeda would normally stay clear of. With Sadie however, it felt safe. She was her own woman. True to who she was and what she liked.

Kelly remembers Sadie as being the consummate storyteller. She had a way of sharing real life experiences that made you scared and excited all at once. She recalls a trip to Atlanta the day before 9/11. They woke up to the shocking news that planes had been hijacked. They both sat and wondered what would happen. Whether they would have jobs or how they would get home. But in true Sadie fashion, they made the most of the vacation for the next three weeks. Sadie left a few days before Kelly and had a

classic story to share of the flight home. “Girl, we had a man on the plane who could’ve been Atta’s brother. If that man had sneezed, we would have all jumped on him!” Then she burst out with that unforgettable laugh of hers. I will truly miss her stories about her travels. She always seem to return with a memorable experience, finding joy and humor in every journey.

Cynthia’s journey with Sadie spans from Erdiston all the way to UWI. They spoke occasionally in the early days after university but the friendship was renewed when Cynthia got engaged and eventually married. Her new family became Sadie’s family. She was godmother to her son, Shane and Cynthia’s husband jokingly referred to Sadie as “one of his wives, as he married not only her but her two best friends.”

Gaye said that as far back as she can remember, Sadie has been in her life. She remembers sitting together at St Christopher’s Anglican on Sunday mornings, with Auntie Wilma keeping a stern eye on the two of them. At Erdiston, they were in the same class throughout, sitting, playing and Sadie arranging many play dates. From young girls to adulthood, they remained in contact, had scintillating conversations; always respectful of each other’s perspective and supportive in all endeavours. Her impish smile, chuckle and laughter, her loyalty, integrity and sincere friendship will always be missed and always treasured.

Nicholas and I remember Sadie’s fantastic memory of all things Erdiston. He shared that she not only remembered faces and names but could describe their temperament as a way of jogging his memory. She would often roll her eyes at his failure to recall the person. This was a real gift, not only in the sense that this was a talent but also that it was a gift for one to feel seen.

Like Gaye, I don’t remember a time when Sadie was not in my life. Our birthdays were days apart and we shared our Capricorn bond. We could go months without talking and when we saw each other, it was like we didn’t miss a beat. I would always contact Sadie when in Barbados and we would arrange to meet up at the beach or I would stop by her house. December was to be our next meet up. However God had different plans. I will miss her laughter, friendship and honest conversations.

Sadie’s spirit, her kindness, and the joy she brought into our lives will live on in each of us. We’ve lost a friend, but we’ve gained a beautiful, wonderful angel who will remain with us forever.

Rest in peace, Sadie. Your legacy will never fade, and your friendship will always be treasured.
