TALK OF THE HILL Volume Issue2 2

Spring Hill VS. SUbiaco

Our Spring Hill Bears spent weeks practicing getting ready for their first game of the season. The Bears pulled Subiaco Academy as the first opponent. They studied film from past games to be ready to tackle Subiaco. However, Subiaco came out strong and scored the first two touchdowns of the game. Karson Hamilton answered back with an 84-yard touchdown on a kickoff. This got our Bears hyped up and went into the half with this energy. The hype continued into the second half and the Bears scored once again! Our team was able to hold off Subiaco from scoring in the second half due to great defense. Even though Spring Hill came up short, they will continue to work. Good game Bears!!

Principal’s Corner:

“Step out of the history that is holding you back. Step into the new story you are willing to create.”

New school year, new beginning. This is a time to wake up and have a fresh start. Every teacher gives you a 100% in your class to start the year. It is easier to maintain the 100% than to start from 0% and work your way up! Take the challenge, you can do it!!!

Hello Spring Hill students and community. We have kicked off the 2023-2024 school year with a bang. Everyone came back to school with the right attitude and eager to get another year started. This is Mrs. Freel’s first year at Springhill, Her favorite thing about Springhill is the people. Her favorite memory is when she got a new student, and when he came in his classmates, without prompting, were so kind and interested. “I was so proud of them, it showed their wonderful character,” says Mrs Freel She loves the way we all work together for each other. She has felt very welcomed. Mrs. Freel is so impressed with the older students leading in a Christ-like fashion, and the kindness they show to the younger students. She has taught every subject. “I love every subject, but I teach math all day!” she says.

New To The Crew Joy Freel

“I am from Bratislava, Slovakia (it is the heart of Europe) Slovakia is a small country with beautiful nature and awesome food It is the perfect place for teenagers because of the nightlife and all the festivals and stuff.

My full name is Romana Slyskova but everyone calls me Romi.

What I like about the US so far is the food, the scenery, and how people are nice and talkative. I love teachers here and the way they teach and that they are always helpful

What I miss about my country is my family, friends, and dogs I miss my home and how peaceful and quiet it is Hanging out with my friends is probably the most thing I miss

I am so excited about all the school activities, football games and just to experience the whole year in America.

I have an older brother, Peter who just graduated from the University of Sioux Falls. He is the main reason why I came here. He is my biggest inspiration and supporter ”

Tiffany Baker

Senior, Tiffany Baker has plans to attend either SAU or Hope to be an Ultrasound technician or a veterinarian. Her goals this year are to graduate with honors and to go on a cruise to Aruba. She will miss most of Spring Hill are the teachers and Mrs. May, but mostly Mrs. May. She has been a part of the Bear Family for 9 years. She transferred from Nevada since it’s “not that great of a school, and Spring Hill is easier” for her. She would advise her underclassmen is to not make Mrs. May mad, she will not help you out in the long run. She is FCCLA, BETA, and NEHS. Her favorite memory from Spring Hill is anytime she is with Vanny. Since she forgets a lot of things especially where she places things. But one memory that sticks out to her is last year (11th grade), Tiffany went to go see her, and while talking to Vanny, Tiffany was playing with her keys. Tiffany had left Vanny called her asking if she had taken her keys with her but the keys were in Vanny’s hand.

Westin Barnett

Westin Barnett is a native of Patmos. He has attended Spring Hill School since Kindergarten. He plans to graduate with a 3.5 GPA which will help him when he attends SAU in the fall. As of right now he is undecided about what to major in, but knows that it will be in business of some kind. Of all his time here at Spring Hill he will miss seeing his buddies and school. His advice for underclassmen: “To work hard and stay out of trouble.” He spends his free time at the rodeo arena and working on the farm.

If he’s not at the farm he’s at school trying to learn something useful. He is always trying to focus on his work. He has won many awards and he’s been named champion in several rodeo tournaments.

AroundTheTown

After the Kidd Family’s Store had closed down, Spring Hill didn’t have a store to go to that was close by. Sometime after, the construction of the new ‘Dollar General’ had started from early 2022 to late 2022. Ever since the residents of Spring Hill go to the now beloved ‘DG.’ The ‘DG’ has many options that people can choose from, like snacks, drinks, food preps, dog food, toys, bug spray, and body care. The DG has it all and you can find it at ‘3602 AR-174, Hope, AR 71801.’
