BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION UPDATE

We're well on our way to Summer, with blue skies and holidays in sight! We've had a fantastic start to the 25/26 financial year thanks to all of you! Keep reading for your quarterly update of all things BHF in Shropshire!

Artificial intelligence for heart attack prediction

Artificial intelligence (Al) is developing thick and fast, especially in the world of research. Did you know that Al can help identify people at high risk of a fatal heart attack years before it strikes? — thanks to new research that we've funded.

Oxford researchers have created a machine learning technology that analyses CT scans to detect early signs of heart disease. This can predict heart attacks up to five years in advance, allowing for preventive treatments. The technology, called CaRi-Heart@, is already in Use in several NHS hospitals.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death globally and responsible for about 1 in 4 deaths across the UK
