Same Same But Di erent
Inspired by Joan Miro who experiments with lines, the Nursery children began their two canvases by creating many layers of paint after being squeezed onto the canvases. They used acrylic paint and paint brushes. The children experimented with brush strokes and tapping the paint onto the canvases. They then began to cut and stick di erent lengths of thread using black on their mustard canvas and mustard on their black canvas.

Sparkle and Shine
Our work was inspired by Joan Miro so involved creating lines and spaces in a myriad of ways! The children all got involved and had great fun swinging pendulums of paint, working cooperatively to tip and roll balls through paint, spraying, dripping and flicking paint and adding their own unique processes too! We had great fun working together to create this piece and we hope you love its vibrancy.

The Circle of Life
Our piece was inspired by the work of Alexander Calder. We followed a sequence of processes: painting with brushes and sponges, creating circles and spirals with twine and layering neutral, circular loose parts. The final piece consists of 16 individual tiles, joined together to reflect that, although we are all individuals, we are one.

Magical Mondrian Mambo
Inspired by Piet Mondrian, the children in Lotus Class set out to create their masterpiece. They incorporated a range of processes to build depth and interest in shapes, focussing on squares and rectangles. Rather than using the Primary colours, having looked at the colour wheel, the children expressed a greater love for the Secondary colours. As you can see, we chose vivid contrasting coloursorange and blue, and purple and yellow. Each child had a favourite process from painting with rollers and bubble wrap to wrapping yarn and ribbon around cardboard shapes. Some children preferred the precise nature of using a ruler then cutting the material using scissors. Black was also added, using Duplo blocks to stamp shapes. We’re sure you’ll agree that the colours really pop!

Mondrian’s Playground
Rose Class created a collaborative mural that embodies Mondrian's abstract style whilst also incorporating their own imaginative elements. The layers are reminiscent of Mondrian's famous grid compositions with each layer having di erent processes to create texture and depth representing our children’s skills. Methods included using rulers and pens to create lines and shapes, glueing loose parts in patterns, mark-making symbols and numbers, taping shapes, painting using hands, fine brushes and of course, layering materials. The background was also covered in black paint by Rose Class mimicking Mondrian's bold lines.

Rotating Rectangles
Inspired by Piet Mondrian, the EY2 children explored a range of processes to create this green masterpiece of squares and rectangles! They squeezed paint from pipettes and bottles then rotated and tilted the canvases to form lines of drips that built up a variety of quadrilaterals. They rolled marbles through splats of paint with the addition of gold for a pop of colour and shine! Wrapping with wool added an element of texture and layering additional squares and rectangles added depth and dimension, along with the addition of some berry coloured enhancements

Shades of Serenity
Mark Rothko was our inspiration. Our background was blue, created in two layers so one shade is peeping through. We then added layers of grey in di erent shades by painting directly on to the canvas, painting on paper and mixing paint with gesso to create di erent textures. Our final layer was yellow with sand to add warmth to the sombre palette that we initially created.

No. 103 (Rain + Fire)
We used Rothko’s fondness of using rectangles as a starting point to create our own piece using paints to create blocks of colour. We used layers of blues, oranges and purples to form our painting. Once completed, we stood back and looked at our artwork and discussed how it made us feel and what it reminded us of. We named our piece ‘Rain + Fire’ as we noticed it captures the glowing warmth of fire and the feeling of falling rain. Like Rothko, we gave our painting a number. We chose to add together the ages of all the children in the class to represent our shared work on this piece, therefore calling our artwork No. 103 (Rain + Fire).

Sunset in the Park, with love.
We learnt about the artist Mark Rothko, his style of painting and how he wanted people to feel di erent emotions about his artwork. We read the story of the Colour Monster and discussed how di erent colours can be linked with emotions. As a class, we decided we wanted people to feel happy, calm and a little bit of love when they saw our artwork, so we used yellow, green and pink. We added layers of paint and oil pastels to build deeper colours and used rectangles shapes in the style of Rothko. We decorated circular wooden shapes using a range of techniques such as paint dipping, brusho paint spraying and pastel colouring. We thought our finished art looked a bit like a sunset and we hope everyone feels happy, calm and a little bit loved when they see it!

Lavender Fields
We looked at di erent artwork by Mark Rothko, and in particular his ‘colour fields’. We started by choosing a colour palette of tissue paper, the children told us that these colours made them feel happy. We then cut and ripped the tissue into strips, and tried to distribute it evenly across our canvas. We soon realised that the contrast in colour between the tissue and the canvas did not work, so we painted a border. Finally, we created some card rectangles, and decorated them with di erent shapes to finish the art.

The Wooden Night
2EB found inspiration in the works of the renowned Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. Exploring her artistry filled with dots, we delved into her vision as a class. Recognising the significance of dots and circles, we embarked on crafting our own art piece, culminating in a collaborative masterpiece. We began by meticulously taping o the canvases before applying paint to create the background. Employing acrylic paint and an assortment of unconventional stamps like bowls, toilet rolls, and bottle caps, we meticulously composed backgrounds adorned with circles. We then layered on glitter and wooden circles to finish. Our enthusiasm and passion radiated throughout the project, evident in the vibrant final artwork we proudly present.

The Infinity of Dots
2JH were inspired by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. We looked at lots of examples of her work, and were particularly drawn to her exhibit ‘Infinity Mirrored Room.’ We loved the idea of a big, black circle as a starting point, so we drew around our class rug, which was the perfect size! From there, we explored di erent paint and printing techniques, using lots of di erent colours and painting/stamping techniques. We decided to use only primary colours, alongside black and white and used these colours to stamp around the circle, building up in layers. Meanwhile, we created many circles in various di erent shapes and sizes. We added circles, within circles, and used many di erent techniques, before positioning them on our central circle. 2ZH were inspired by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. We looked at a lot of her pieces of artwork and learnt about her vision of using polka dots. She once said, ‘Polka dots can't stay alone. When we obliterate nature and our bodies with polka dots, we become part of the unity of our environments.’ As a class, we decided polka dots would be important and we each wanted to complete an art piece and then bring them altogether. We used acrylic paint and a variety of stamps (including toilet rolls, corks, cotton buds and bottle caps) to create our backgrounds and then created our vegetables and fruits using poster paints and a di erent selection of dots. We loved making our project and we hope you can see that in the final piece of artwork!
