OLDIE MUSIC PAGE by August The Oldies are the Best! Hi, my name is August and I am back again in the City Life magazine. I am from 6JO and I like to listen to music from the 60s 70s 80s on CDs, cassettes and vinyl. What are record players? A record player, aka a phonograph, is a device that is used to play audio recordings. Vinyl records are placed ahead on the record player’s turntable and are spun at a constant speed, mostly 33 rpm and the sounds are reproduced through a stylus or needle which run along the record’s groove. Between the 20s and 80s the record was very popular and even in the 21st century 7 percent of the music format are record players. What are cassettes? Cassettes are analog tape recording formal for audio recording and playback. Invented by Lou Otten and his team at Dutch company Philips and released in August 1963. Music from iTunes and Spotify These music formats are digital and are mostly used in an iPad, iPhone and Mac. These apps have thousands of songs from the past to the present.

Survey time! If you can please join this survey. The survey is about music from the 70s 80s. Thank you

Please join the survey by scanning this QR code

80s hits 1. Wanna dance with somebody by Whitney Houston 2. Perfect kiss by new order 3. Modern love by David Bowie 4. Once in a lifetime by Talking heads 5. Straight out of Compton by NWA 6. Purple rain by Prince 7. Take on me by A-ha 8. Africa by Toto 9. New Monday by New Order 10. Tainted love by Soft Cell 1

Recommendations Top 5 artists 5. Michael Jackson wasn't just the biggest pop star of his era, shaping the sound and style of the '80s. He was one of the stars of the 20th century, a musician who changed the outline of American culture. 4. Bread was one of the most popular pop groups of the early 1970s, earning a string of wellcrafted, melodic soft rock singles, all of which were written by keyboardist/vocalist David Gates 3.Elvis Presley belongs on the short list of artists who changed the course of popular music in the 20th century. He may not have invented rock & roll, but he was indisputably its first rock star, a singer whose charisma was tightly intertwined with his natural talent for a combination that seemed combustible, sexy, and dangerous. 2. Carpenters with their light, airy melodies and careful crafted, clean arrangements that appealed to a variety of audiences, the Carpenters stood in direct contrast to the excessive, gaudy pop/rock of the '70s. 1. The Beatles recorded together for a little over seven years. Between October 1962 and May 1970, they released thirteen albums and a number of tracks issued on standalone singles. The catalogue created in that short period has sold more than that of any other group in history.

Thank you for reading this page Pls tell other people to read the magazine bye!

MEET DR UNDERPANTS

CITY LIFE caught up with our resident superhero Dr Underpants (Edward Hales) to find out a little more about his adventures in the Loy Krathong assembly film.

Have you ever dreamed about what it would be like to fly across the world in your underpants? I have, and my dream came true when I was lucky enough to be selected for the lead role in this year’s Loy Krathong assembly. At the start, I never would have believed I could do it. It was scary, nerve-wracking and like nothing I have ever done before. Working with Mr Procter, Mr Duerden and Mr Beguin gave me the confidence to get into character and film the scenes for the video. I especially enjoyed working with the other students on the scenes. Eli, Eric, The City Slickers and, of course, Annie, made it so much fun! I felt really fortunate to be able to work with friends and create something which the school would love. Showing kindness, above all other things, is so important. This is one of the City Campus values and is something I think we can all do together to make a big difference. Being kind to the environment was the key message in our Loy Krathong assembly. Working together, to make small differences such as turning off taps will help to save our world! What do you think YOU can do to help protect the environment? Remember, one small action can make a BIG difference in our world…

WATCH THE FILM AGAIN!

Favourite moments! - Filming with Eli was very funny when I spilt water on him - The whole school chase - Coming up with the name ‘Doctor Underpants’ - Time taken to film and re-filming scenes - Favourite scene: Eric’s laces

Tess

Hi, I’m Tess! AND I’M BACK. Do you remember me? From the last magazine? Nevermind just read this page.I’ll be showing you how to FEEL GOOD!!! PS. Don’t you dare skip it… Doing new things. Doing new things can be a great boost of confidence! Like riding a rollercoaster. *super important announcement incoming!* SUPER IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Don’t worry about being scared! Just know that being scared is one of the most important things in life. (LITERALLY) Don’t let anyone judge you or embarrass you for god’s sake! We all get scared!

Meditation. Ok, let’s get calm now. Even a simple breathe in and out is a great way to start everyday. Meditation is just to release your stress. (You don’t have to worry about yoga!) 1 minute is already enough, not like those “namaste you have to do yoga + meditation for 20 minutes” videos! *super important announcement incoming!* SUPER IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Make sure you’re in a quiet place. With no distractions/ loud sounds! (Unlike my brother when he’s playing video games!)

DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY! I’m having a survey called “What makes you happy?” No rights or wrongs! Everybody is unique and we must all respect each other's opinions. Please scan this QR and type in what makes you happy plus your name and class! (If you don’t have an iPad just use your parents device) Ok, that’s enough from me. Goodbye and go do what makes you happy!

LOY KRATHONG @ CITY CAMPUS

Thank you to our wonderful Thai department for arranging an amazing day of Loy Krathong celebrations.

The Filmmaker's Page Introduction from Allen: Hello, my name is Allen. I’m in year 6JO. I will tell you all about how to make a film. I am writing this page because I like everything to do with films and filmmaking like watching and making films. How to make a film? Is easy to make a film (on iPad). 1. First you need to write the plan on paper or iPad. 2. Second you need to follow the plan and take some video. 3.Third make them together on iMovie. Tips for filmmaking: 1. brain 2. an iPad 3. an actor And the most important things is: 4. YOU!!!

(I’m the camera!) How to be a great director? And so first what is a director? Director to some people that tell the actor how to do and is kind of a leader in filmmaking and director is very IMPORTANT! Then how to be a great director? A great director can lead actors, cameras and sounds and tell them how to do it. And never shout to any people. And that is it.

How to shoot a short film. First, we need at least two actors. Then we need a director, a camera and a sound. And when the director says “roll camera!”Then the camera needs to start filming and the assistant director marks the take with a clapper board and says what is the name that you are filming and how many times you take.

How to use iMovie like a professional:

Why do we do that? Because you can relax and make some more friends or let friendships deepen. Also experience fun when you are making a film, isn't it? Let’s start your film making time!

Bye, I hope you have a good day! DIGITAL CREATIVITY CLUB The Media Studio @ City Campus is open on Tuesday (Year 3&4) and Thursday lunchtimes(Year 5&6) for all your creative Digital Media projects. Exploring games with Kaow

Exploring Roblox My first time in Roblox was great there was so many games and it felt like a gaming paradise. I have been playing Roblox for 5 years but it hasn’t really become different.

Did you know that Mr Sheffield as well as being a maths genius is a MASSIVE GAMER?! I asked him about some of his favourite games.

Mr Sheffield recommends Stardew valley which is a farming simulator where you take over your Grandpa’s old farm and bring it back to life. Grow crops, make friends with villagers and go mining in caves

The next game is Factorio. This is a game about mining resource and then designing a factory whilst defending yourself against the local aliens.

Mr Sheffield’s last recommendation is super Mario brothers wonder which is the latest game in the super Mario series with new powerups and new levels.

FANTASTIC FRESHWATER FISH! Hi fish lovers my name is Sage and I’m in 5JT.Today your gonna learn a lot about freshwater fish .I am doing this because people always make mistakes when looking after fish which really does cause them to die in painfully but I don’t want that anymore because I love nature especially the fish. Now enjoy!

Fish I recommend (judged by your personality). If you are brave and experienced here are yours: All dragon fish (arowana and arapaima) they both need a lot of oxygen as they live in the Amazon rainforest and they both eat freshwater shrimp but arowanas also eat worms so you have to be brave. Freshwater stingrays they a lot of oxygen, in fact if the oxygen goes out the stingray will die very soon.Freshwater stingrays eat frozen shrimp but be careful because the other fish might steal as shrimp needs to get to the bottom before the stingray can eat it. Goliath (tiger fish) Goliaths have to be highly oxygenated and eat tiny fish so if you have other fish they have to be bigger than the Goliath otherwise they either get eaten or get seriously wounded but most of the time they get eaten. Alligator gar really you could put it in the same section as the Goliath but smaller and a little bit less violent. If you are not very experienced and like cute things: Goldfish they are very easy just oxygen and normal fish food. Carp/koi are also same as goldfish but they sometimes get diseases so you might need an expert at fish in case but they probably won’t get a disease.

Guppies are the easiest to look after as you can have dirty water making it easier than keeping the water clean and it eats the same as the other two. Red tail catfish same as the first two but they are a little bit hostile so you need the others to be bigger or faster

If you want cool fishes then here are yours: Sturgeon they are like stingrays on the oxygen part and eat small fish but they fit in the cool section as if you have one it is so hard to look after so if you keep it alive for a long time you will look very cool .

Freshwater shark they can be in not too clean water, eat small fish and need some oxygen, it makes you look good because you have a shark in freshwater!
