After 40 years perfecting his craft as a custom painter for high-end homes, the founder of Dennis White Painting has now partnered with two men to bring something very special to those fortunate few. "A year ago, I partnered with Caleb Gasway to continue to build on our reputation of serving the customers who have very high expectations and allow us to meet them. We have professional painters who work for us.They are fabulous, very conscientious in what they do. We have brought our business to a whole other level," said Dennis White. White, who had done work at the Belleview Biltmore Hotel and numerous upscale homes in Belleair, was then given an opportunity to purchase some of the remaining heart pine wood that was originally used to build the Biltmore in the late 1800s.
"We partnered with David Coster, who is a professional wood worker. He and I have been working together for over 30 years. The guy is just an absolute professional. David and I are now working together to build tabletops and bases together with the reclaimed wood from the Belleview Biltmore. Everything is hand-
made, custom made to order for each customer.The customer can tell us how they would like it designed, and they can also personally pick the wood from the Biltmore that they want us to use for their table," said White. Knowing the history of the Belleview Biltmore Hotel and its rich tradition, Dennis and his partners knew that the remaining parts of the Biltmore, the wood, had to be treated as respectfully as the Biltmore itself. "Being able to take the original wood from the Biltmore and turn it into a custom-made table for a customer is truly a love of labor for us," said White. With wood lengths of up to 20 feet long and a minimum weight of 400 pounds,White said they can turn the Biltmore wood into sofa tables, coffee tables, dining room tables, conference tables and anything else the customer can envision. Operating on a first-come, first-served basis, White says the turnaround time is anywhere between six to eight weeks, so he stressed not to wait too long if interested. Belleair OKs plans for new Pelican Golf Club renovations By Jason Coffman
A
fter several bumps in the road, the Doyle family of Belleair is ready to close on the former Belleview Biltmore Golf Club on Indian Rocks Road. The Doyles are buying the property, now known as the Pelican Golf Club, from the Town of Belleair for a sales price of $3.8 million. Town commissioners recently viewed the renovation plans for the property and unanimously agreed to approve the plans, along with five variances requested by the golf course’s designer, Shane Robichaud. Under the plans unveiled to commissioners, the existing clubhouse will be torn down and replaced with two new buildings, which will house a new clubhouse, a pro shop, restaurant, locker rooms and more. Most of the requested variances

involved changing things such as the number of required parking spots and loading docks, as well as the removal of over 860 trees from the property. All members of the commission were strongly in favor of the plan, despite the variances. Several residents voiced concerns about the impact of the renovations, particularly in regard to drainage and wildlife, but commissioners remained confident that the Doyles will only do what is in the best interest of the community. As part of their deal with the town, the Doyles have promised not to ever proceed with any sort of development on the land, other than the proposed improvements to the golf course. The golf course renovations are expected to cost around $18 million and be completed by March 2019.

The Church of Scientology has pulled out all the stops to try to purchase a vacant lot currently owned by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
I
n its latest and probably final bid to purchase a 1.4 vacant parcel of the land from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, the Church of Scientology has seriously upped the ante: to the tune of $15 million. The land in question is located at the corner of Pierce Street and Osceola Avenue in downtown Clearwater, in between City Hall and the Church’s Oak Cove retreat. The Aquarium originally purchased the land five years ago for $2.1 million. The plan was to move the Aquarium downtown, but they have since opted for a $50 million overhaul of their cur-
rent Island Estates facility instead. Church officials have been anxious to acquire the property for some time, saying they would like to build a pool, a playground and other amenities for Church members’ use. However, the CMA has been in talks with Clearwater officials for nearly two years to sell the land to the city. It will more than likely be utilized as part of the city’s Imagine Clearwater waterfront redevelopment plan that was approved by the city council in February. The city’s offer for the land stands at $4.25 million, $10.75 million less than the Church’s offer. The land was recently appraised at $4.5 million and $4.66

million. According to Aquarium CEO David Yates, the CMA has no interest in entertaining other offers and no intention of backing out of its agreement with the city. Scientology spokesman Ben Shaw
confirmed that this will be the Church’s last offer, saying that they cannot compete with the innapropriate relationship evidenced between the city and the CMA. Clearwater city councilmembers will vote on the purchase on April 20.

Pinellas inmate charged with credit card fraud while in jail By Scott Lancaster

etectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested an inmate for arranging fraudulent credit card transactions while incarcerated at the Pinellas County Jail. Robert Kinzinger, 47, was charged with one count of Principal in the First Degree – Criminal Use of Personal Identification. He is currently in jail awaiting trial on unrelated charges that include fraudulent use of a credit card, fraudulent use of personal identification information and violation of probation. Kinzinger is accused of arranging fraudulent credit card transactions with his girlfriend, Theresa Farr, 56, of Largo, during a phone conversation that occurred at the jail. According to detectives, Kinzinger instructed Farr to retrieve from his computer a credit card number belonging to a 75-year-old former neighbor. Kinzinger instructed Farr to use the credit card number to purchase food

Farr then used the account to place four online orders totaling $365.47. When detectives interviewed the victim, he confirmed the activity was fraudulent. Detectives then interviewed Farr, who admitted to the allegations. Farr was charged with one count of Fraudulent Use of Personal Identification Information.

t’s taken nine years, but Clearwater’s Cleveland Streetscape Project can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. The city recently announced that the project was entering into its third and final phase, which will cover the area between Missouri Avenue and San Remo Avenue to the east, including a portion of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard. The project, which was originally launched in 2008, has been focused on making the downtown area more pedestrian-friendly, with the goal of enticing visitors to spend more time downtown. Phase three of the project will continue in this vein, while also implementing the city’s “Complete Streets” concept, which aims to provide safe access to downtown for all users: motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and those utilizing public transportation. Phase three will include the widening
of sidewalks and the addition of green spaces, along with trees and landscaping, new streetlights and more on-street parking. The city also plans to incorporate more bike lanes and pedestrian crosswalks. The Cleveland Streetscape Project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, at a cost of around $6 million.

42nd Annual Mailsail Art Festival ST. t’s been 20 years since Everclear released their 1997 multiplatinum smash So Much For The Afterglow, yet the album remains a fan favorite, and continues to inspire a new generation of musicians today. Bolstered by the record’s enduring popularity, Everclear are about to embark on a highly anticipated tour celebrating this milestone anniversary, with plans to perform at Clearwater’s Capitol Theatre on April 30. As the band’s third full-length album, So Much For The Afterglow built upon the momentum of 1995’s Sparkle And Fade, with a slew of unforgettable songs that permeated MTV and alternative rock radio. e purchased our first house in the Arlington area of Jacksonville. The area averaged 60 sales a year five a month. A few months later, a business relocated five executives to our area, doubling the number of buyers. We sold after 27 months for 215 percent of what we paid. Supply and demand determine a property's value more than any other factor. Any time a market has more listings than buyers, prices go down. If the market has more buyers than properties for sale, prices go up. Today, there are more buyers. It's important to understand the market. Just because an agent says they can sell your house for more than anyone else or over fair market value, doesn't make it so. An inexperienced agent, or one who over-promises, will usually get you less in the long run than an experienced agent who
and sellers must look at no more than six months of recent sales; three months is better. The comparison has to be apples to apples with adjustments made to match the subject property. The lot has a value and the structure on the property has a value. You must separate the two. You can't take two 70' x 100' lots, one with a house that has 1,000 sq ft and the another with 2,000 sq ft and just use the sales price per square foot on one to value the other.
