Clearwater puts in for FWC Boating Improvement Grant

Clearwater looking for the next big thing in local music

CLEARWATER - At a recent meeting, the Clearwater City Council agreed to give the City Marine and Aviation department the authority to apply for a grant from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to mill and resurface the parking lot and improve landscaping at the Seminole Boat Ramp, located at 198 Seminole St. The FWC has around $5 million in its budget this funding cycle for projects throughout the state, so city officials were advised to keep their grant request under $600,000, and actually closer to $400,000, for the best chance of getting it approved. It could be three months before the city learns if it has received the grant money.

BELLEAIR BLUFFS - Due to the persistence of its manager, the Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge bait house will now be allowed to sell beer and wine, for take-out only.

City and county laws will have to be changed to allow the concession, as consumption and possession of alcohol on causeway land is currently prohibited.

The land is owned by the county, but is leased to the city of Belleair Bluffs.

The county has already agreed to change its code to allow the bait house to sell alcoholic beverages in cans,

plastic bottles or boxes only, but no glass.

The Belleair Bluffs City Commission agreed with the county’s decision and

asked City Attorney Thomas Trask to alter the wording in the city’s code of ordinances as he saw fit in order to make this happen.

In Brief Belleair Bluffs plans for new fire station BELLEAIR BLUFFS - At a recent city commission meeting, Belleair Bluffs Mayor Chris Arbutine shared the city’s plans to begin construction on a new fire station to replace the current Station 43, located at 682 N. Indian Rocks Road.

BELLEAIR - Belleair Town Commissioners recently approved the funding for a $100,000 job to replace a deteriorating underground pipe near the intersection of Ponce De Leon Boulevard and Shirley Avenue.

The job will result in the closure of Ponce De Leon for about three weeks, once the project gets started.

Starkey Road widening project continues

SEMINOLE - In accordance with the original site plan for the area, a Holiday Inn Express is currently under construction at the Bay Pines development located at 10005 Bay Pines Blvd. The only caveat for the new hotel is that it must conform visually with the buildings that are already onsite.

Plans for the hotel call for a five-story structure that will translate into 121 rooms.

The 60-acre development is also home to the Super Walmart that opened in July 2014, as well as several other retail and restaurant businesses.

SEMINOLE - Work is underway on an extensive road project to improve traffic flow on a section of Starkey Road/Park Street North from 84th Lane North to 82nd Avenue North in Seminole.

The project will cause lane closures as Pinellas County contractors transform sections of the road from four lanes to a six-lane divided roadway and make enhancements to major intersections.

The work is expected to be completed in 2017.

Thai Coconut Top-notch Thai

am not going to lie. Thai Coconut is probably not located in the best place in the world. It's not a rough area, but let's just say it's not in the heart of the dining district. But the crazy thing is, it doesn't matter, because this Thai restaurant has won so many awards, the owner, Eddie Punyahotra, has said he doesn't have room on his walls to put them. That is success, my friends.

Located on the fringe of Clearwater and Largo on Missouri Avenue, Thai Coconut's customers come from all over Pinellas County and beyond to dine at what could very well be the best Thai restaurant in the entire Tampa Bay area.

Of course, when I go, I always order the Red Curry, which is to-die-for, but on a recent trip, I had both duck and

seafood. Oh my gosh, people. It's crazy good. It's really not surprising that Thai Coconut is famous and has won a gazillion awards.

Eddie honed his culinary skills growing up in Thailand and perfected them in the States, Thai Coconut working for some of the 1280 S. Missouri Ave. finest hotels, Clearwater such as

In addition to the fabulous entrees on their main menu, Thai Coconut is also known for some of the best and freshest sushi in the area, and the

atmoshere is very warm and inviting. Thai Coconut also has an outdoor dining area accompanied with a waterfall, soothing lighting and a koi pond.

People, the place is freakin' awesome, which is why people from all over West Florida will travel to dine there. It is that damn good, take my word for it!
