seminolenews Detectives seek public’s help in string of robberies

SEMINOLE - Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives assigned to the Robbery/ Homicide Unit are seeking the public's assistance in locating two suspects who attempted an armed robbery of GTE Financial, located at 7691 Starkey Rd. in Seminole.

According to investigators, two suspects entered the bank after 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 5.

One suspect remained by the front door, while the other walked to the automated teller machine.

When the suspect reached the ATM, he allegedly said, “Let’s get out of here,” and then both suspects walked out of the bank and fled the area.

Detectives say that since Dec. 15, 2015, there have been three additional robberies that appear to have been committed by the same suspects: On Dec. 15, a robbery occurred at the Quick Food Store located at 7539 46th Ave. N. in unincorporated St. Petersburg.

On Dec. 17, a robbery occurred at the Regions Bank located at 9701 Starkey Rd. in Largo.

On Dec. 28, a robbery occurred at the Citgo Gas Station located at 6915 Ulmerton Rd. in Largo.

But instead, after an hour, the two mechanics who were working on it came into the office to tell Fred that they were able to smooth out the current rotors, so I was in good shape. The price was far less than what I was

anticipating. They told me I would soon need front brake pads, which I already knew, but I was low on time and cash at the time. So I told them I would be back after Christmas, when I was able reimburse my bank account after spoiling my undeserving kids.

Two days after I had the work done, I noticed something sticking out of my hood. When I pulled it out, I realized it was the cap to the windshield washer fill-up. I pulled the hood release and the hood would not open. I was like, damn it. This also happened to my last car, the same make and model as my current car.

So I w ent to Meineke again. They had me pull in near the bay, and as I waited, I prepared to spend a couple of hundred dollars. And just before Christmas, too. It sucked but it had to be done.

After about 15 minutes, the mechanic, Mike, came out and said they were all done. They had fixed it. I braced for the cost.

You ready? ZERO. They didn't charge me. He said that the cable had come undone and all they had to do was reattach it. WOW. They could have gouged me for sure, but that's not who they are.

It's not how Fred, a veteran and former IT programmer, runs his business. He and his mechanics, Mike, with almost 40 years experience, and Chris, truly care about what they do. I did give them a token of my appreciation, and I think we all went home happy.

Jazzy’s BBQ The sound and taste of Southern success

I

f you've ever driven past Jazzy's BBQ on Ft. Harrison in Clearwater, many of you have probably asked yourself, I wonder how long that place will last.

Well. I have an answer. A long time.

I'll tell you why, but first, I understand your skepticism, because that location has seen at least three restaurants come and go over the past few years. So what makes Jazzy's BBQ different? A lot of things.

For starters, they have damn good BBQ at a damn good price. They are the Sonny's BBQ of yesteryear, in a nicer, warmer atmosphere.

First of all, everyone loves BBQ, especially when it is affordable.

Sonny's has become too corporate and I will be the first to tell you that I am not going to overpay on what I feel is processed Sysco food. I'm not knocking Sysco. They have great food, I'm sure, but I'm not going to overpay for it.

On a recent, and my first, visit to Jazzy's BBQ, I truly didn't know what to expect. I knew the restaurant was opened by retired NFL player Johnny Ray Smith, a defensive back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, along with his wife, Pamela, a former cheer-

leader for the Bucs, but that was about all I knew. So as I ventured in, the first thing I noticed was a couple of guys cutting fresh BBQ that I could view through a clear window. Nice touch. Both of the young guys had pleasant smiles and greeted me with a good afternoon.

Great start.

I was then greeted by a young lady telling me I could sit anywhere I wanted. I thought about sit-

ting beside the cozy fireplace but instead chose a booth along the front with a window view.

Instantly Jasmine, the young woman, approached my table and introduced herself. She took my drink order and she was off.

Let me tell you something, folks, I am from the South and I know true Southern BBQ, so if Jazzy's gets my vote, you can bet your sweet ass you are going to love it. I went with the ribs, of course, and a BBQ pork sandwich. Gosh darn, I mean, gosh dang, it was good. No, I don't talk like that, but you get my point. It was awesome.

And equally as great as the

food and the warm and cozy atmosphere was the Southern hospitality that Jasmine provided during my meal. She was outstanding. Johnny, my brother, where in the world did you find your staff? You hit the gold mine.

They were on top of their game. No pun intended.

On a serious note, something that has concerned many of us who have dined at this location previously, when it was the Pepper Mill or one of the other former restaurants, is that we are well aware it is only a stone's throw from Belleair, so we naturally assume the prices are going to be high. Jazzy's was just the opposite. I was surprised at how low the prices were and not only how good it was, but what a nice experience it was. It truly brought me back to the South that I have always known and loved.

I know it will do the same for all of you. Now, dadgummit, get in there and tell 'em I sent ya!!!
