Making Tough Decisions
The immunization controversy
The topic I am going to talk about today is the immunization controversy. In my paper, I am going to do a comparison and contras about this topic. First of let me say that I can understand both sides of the argument, growing you are told to get your child immunized. Getting immunized helps your child fight infection and keeps them healthy, but some parents do not think it is a good idea mainly because of the possible side effect. There was a saying growing up that prevention is better than cure meaning if you get immunized now it is better than not getting immunized getting sick and ending up being in a hospital bed fighting for your life.
Delaying Immunizations
The reason why some parents/caregivers would delay getting their baby/ infant immunized is many different reasons according to (J Pediatric Health Care. (2009) 23, 388-393) stated that some parents do not have the funds to take their child to get immunized since some parents are either a single mother/father and are working and living from paycheck to paycheck it makes it harder for them because now they have to choose between paying the rent put food on the table or get your child immunized. Another reason is because of the concern about how safe is it. A lot of people including me are always worried about how safe getting immunized is and what shortterm or even long-term effects will it have on the baby. For some people, it is against their religion and moral beliefs.
Denying Immunizations and Education
Parents would deny immunization for their kids because according to the (better Health channel) the side rare immunization side effect as anaphylaxis, for someone who does not know what anaphylaxis is when you have an allergic reaction right away and it only happens once in a million. It can also cause Febrile seizure and febrile seizure happens when the child's fever rises immediately. This section will address why parents decide to deny immunizations completely.

some other side effects are fever, redness, swelling around the needle area, and a small hard lump that may last about weeks or sometimes months. The way I would educate this more is that I will let them watch some videos about why getting immunized is important not only that I would also print out so expert role on why it is important from the CDC. I will also print out reporting of the number of babies that have died because the family refuses to get them immunized.
My Role
My role as a provider in this situation I would give all the information to the patient to try to convince them to get their child immunized I will also become their advocate meaning speaking up for them no matter what decision they make. it is my role to make sure that the parents are properly educated before making any big decision like this, I will let them know about the side effect of getting it and what would happen. According to (James,2018) according to give parents respect is to listen to them and put yourself in their shoes, if they still refuse let them know that you appreciate them listening to you, and if there is anything they need well to let me know and I respect their wishes. if you don’t get it. and how you can best respect the caregiver’s wishes, no matter what they decide. Let them know that they are other ways to protect their kids.
Conclusion
Parents need to get their kids immunized as soon as possible if not the consequences are worse than the side effect. As a mother, I can understand why parents/caregivers are worried because of the side effect but I would let them know that the cure is better than the side effect. I will let them know that the longer they delay their kids from getting immunized the more work it will become for them. I would give all the information to the patient to try to convince them to get their child immunized, I will also let them know that it will protect their kids from infections

that they will get when growing up. The vaccine has a little of that Bacteria and so if you ended up getting it your body would know what to do.
