To reach our goal of preparing every child in Bachman Lake for kindergarten, all of us must work together. All of us must be invested in building more equitable systems to ensure all children and families thrive, regardless of socioeconomic status. When we join our efforts, all of us contribute to the collective heartbeat that will drive a brighter future for the next generation of Bachman Lake. And that is a gift for all of us.
“
I like being involved in Bachman Lake Together to know what programs they have and what support they offer. I feel prepared with tools to support my children.”
– Monica Sanchez

2023-24 Impact Report
Truly a collaborative effort, our Pre-K enrollment campaign exemplifies what we can accomplish when the community unites in support of a goal. We work with 10 partners, including early education experts and Dallas ISD, as well as parent leaders to provide families with information on the local education system, access to quality Pre-K and register their children. Collectively, we enrolled* Bachman Lake children for 86% of available Pre-K seats.

A Pathway to Pre-K
Our early education partners, Lumin Education and AVANCE North Texas, offer home visits and early education programs for children ages 0-5 at the Family Center, giving parents and caregivers the tools to strengthen their children’s development. This helps set the stage for greater Pre-K enrollment.
312 children enrolled in Lumin and AVANCE early education programs
What’s New
We added 2 new schools for Pre-K registration.
This year, we expanded our Pre-K campaign to two new neighboring elementary schools –Polk and Walnut Hill – to ensure Bachman Lake families could access Pre-K seats.
Dallas ISD will expand full-day Pre-K in Bachman Lake.
We support Dallas ISD in advocating for and raising awareness of the need in Bachman Lake. In the 2024-2025 school, the district will expand full-day Pre-K in the Thomas Jefferson feeder system in Bachman Lake.
Through these efforts, more children in Bachman Lake attend Pre-K and start kindergarten ready to learn, academically, socially and emotionally. This gives them a better chance of succeeding in school.
Community
Action Network (CAN), our nine-month parent leadership program, provides parents and caregivers with a supportive community in which they can learn the importance of supporting their children’s development and early education, how to navigate the school system, and gain confidence in using their voice and exploring their leadership potential.
18 parents graduated from CAN Level 1
28 parents and caregivers participated in all levels of CAN
Parents Making an Impact
Each year, CAN graduates make a lasting impact in our community. This year, we launched a new program for our most advanced CAN leaders, called Agents, to colead projects and initiatives to further reach caregivers and introduce them to Bachman Lake Together. In one such project, Agents co-led Literacy Partners’ La Fuerza de Familias Latinas parent engagement program, helping recruit and engage families while also receiving training and teaching curriculum. This program supports parents and caregivers in promoting their children’s early learning, social-emotional growth, literacy and school readiness. This is just one example of how parent leaders are empowering others in the Bachman Lake community.
73 parents participated in the La Fuerza workshops
9 parent leaders served as facilitators and support specialists
6 neighborhood locations served
Enhancing Family Well-Being in Bachman Lake
Access to quality schools, places for children to play safely and community resources are critical elements of a healthy community that supports family well-being. Last fall, we partnered with Dallas Innovation Alliance to open a technology lab, and this spring we worked with Better Block to bring a refreshed play space to the Family Center parking lot.
455 families served since its November 2023 opening
34 digital workshops offered since November on topics including job searching and digital and computer basics
Promoting a Healthy and Vibrant Neighborhood
In partnership with Better Block Foundation, Lumin Education, The Dallas Foundation and the City of Dallas, we temporarily transformed a portion of the Family Center parking lot into a traffic garden where kids navigated an interactive course to learn safe riding techniques, and families enjoyed additional seating, shading areas and art installations.
Over 350 parents, children and community members celebrated our Grand Opening with family-friendly activities, performances and local vendors.
Helping Families and the Community Thrive
Family well-being is not only critical to raising healthy children who are better prepared for school, it also benefits the entire community with strong social connections, economic stability and increased community involvement.
