Working Together for Bachman Lake Children
A child’s readiness for Kindergarten and beyond is directly tied to their family’s physical, social and economic conditions. That’s why Bachman Lake Together works with Bachman Lake parents and a broad range of community partners to support not only the early education of children, but the well-being of their families too.

We are proud to be collaborating with the team in service of Dallas’ children and families, from cradle to career.”

Partnering with Both Generations
Using a dual-generation approach, Bachman Lake Together and our partners advance kindergarten readiness by supporting families and empowering them to support their children’s development. By connecting families with resources that support their well-being, we are able to help them carve a path for their children’s successful start to school and beyond.
Through a partnership with Dallas ISD, trained parent leaders, staff and community partners contacted more than 1,500 families, educating them about the importance of Pre-K, answering their questions and helping them register and enroll for the 2021-22 school year.

Their efforts resulted in filling 90% of the available Pre-K seats in Bachman Lake schools.
Investing in Parent Leadership
Parents in the Community Action Network (CAN) are developing their voices as leaders, learning to advocate for their children’s education and building a support system of fellow parents. This year, a secondyear CAN experience helped parents build on these skills as they were partnered with mentors. In 2021-22, 19 parents completed CAN Levels 1 and 2.
Learning is Everywhere
At Bachman Lake Together, we believe our parents are their children’s first teachers. Together with our parent leaders and partners, we embarked on a video project called Learning Is Everywhere to demonstrate how parents can transform everyday moments into meaningful opportunities that promote their children’s early development.
Parent leaders are at the center of Learning Is Everywhere. They are both behind the camera, helping to plan segments that appeal to their peers, and in front of the camera, demonstrating how to turn activities like baking and bedtime into learning opportunities for children.

Together, we launched the first video in 2021, and two more are due for release.
As part of CAN Level 2, Carmen and Pati were paired with mentors to help them augment their leadership skills. When their mentors encouraged them to earn GEDs, the two parent leaders worked hard to meet the challenge.
Carmen and Pati completed their GEDs and now offer tutoring to other parents who are working toward a GED.
