The Finance Committee had a special meeting before the full council convened. The committee discussed the possibility of calling the hearing for the
2014 levy that is payable in 2015. The council voted 7-1 to follow the committee’s recommendation to ward off the hearing for one more year. Before the vote, City Administrator Robbin Blackert said that, while she was able to stay under the magic 5 percent increase, pension responsibilities warranted a larger increase either this year or next. at Gibler can’t really explain where the idea came from, but one day this summer, her daughter, Debbie Wilcox, just decided she wanted to knit hats. Not just for fun, but for a good cause. Wilcox wanted her hats to go to Goodfellows of Lee County, for its annual holiday distribution. Wilcox, 52, is mentally disabled, but lives independently in a Kreider apartment in Dixon, where she helps take care of the man across the hall. Her mother also lives in Dixon, and is never too far when Wilcox wants to go on a trip to buy yarn. Gibler, 76, donated homemade fleece blankets to Goodfellows last winter, so that’s likely what sparked Wilcox’s interest this year. WONDERFUL CONTINUED ON A3
Applications still available Applications for Lee County families interested in participating in Goodfellows’ Christmas giveaway are available at the Dixon Public Library, the Telegraph office, the Dixon Community Food Pantry, the Lee County Senior Center, The Lee County Housing Authority and at grade schools.
