STERLING – Breaking news: In the battle of good vs. evil, evil wins. Well, that’s according to Matt Brown and Bobby Dillon, both of Sterling, and the new board game they built around the idea. In “Dark Lord: The Board Game,” players embody characters – all with macabre names and sinister powers – in a battle to decide who will reign as the new Dark Lord. Players choose a lord from three classes: blood mage, liche, and revenant. Then the game begins. With 470 playable cards, players work to defeat other lords by exploiting the land’s resources and building armies as they make their way toward the middle of the board – The Eye.

Matt Brown, 27, (left) of Sterling, and Bobby Dillon, 25, of Dixon are working toward producing 1,000 copies of “Dark Lord: The Board Game”. It’s taken them more than a year and many overhauls to create the tabletop game, which they’ve been demonstrating at businesses such as The Rusty Fox Wine and Alehouse in downtown Sterling, where they showed it off Tuesday night.
