DIXON | WATER AND SEWER

City, Bonnell near agreement Manufacturer wants to connect, and for city to pay bulk of cost BY MATT MENCARINI mmencarini@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5529 @MattMencarini

DIXON – Bonnell Industries hopes to be annexed into Dixon and connect to city water and sewer. The move would add about

$30,000 a year in sales tax revenue to the city, according to the proposal, but would require the city paying 90 percent of the $285,000 cost to connect – or $256,500. The proposal, initiated by the company, was discussed during Tuesday night’s City

Council meeting, and was presented by Joe Bonnell, a representative of the company, and John Thompson, president of the Lee County Industrial Development Association. Bonnell said the city could be repaid for its initial investment

within 8 years, and the company plans to expand its Dixon operations – by about 66,000 square feet – and expects to hire a dozen employees in addition to its current workforce of about 63. WATER CONTINUED ON A7

Beavers’ damage done? Board tweaks language in personnel policies BY PAM EGGEMEIER peggemeier@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5570 @pam_eggemeier

STERLING – Some pesky inhabitants of Sinnissippi Park seem to have moved along to wreak havoc elsewhere. The Sterling Park District Board of Commissioners received an update Monday on the beavers that had been damaging trees at the park. After noticing some of the destruction, park officials discovered that the

beavers had built some dams at the creek, near the bike path. “There were taking down some good-sized trees,” Sterling Park District Executive Director Larry Schuldt said. “We thought there were probably five or six of them working on 40 to 50 trees.” The park district didn’t want to harm the animals, so officials instead opted for giving them incentive to move.
