COLOMA TOWNSHIP

Audit placed on hold Township cuts ties with firm hired 19 months ago BY PAM EGGEMEIER peggemeier@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5570 @pam_eggemeier

ROCK FALLS – Coloma Township has put a longawaited audit on hold, and has cut ties with the firm that had

been working on it for the last 19 months. Wipfli, a Milwaukee-based accounting firm with an office in Sterling, was hired to produce an audit after former Supervisor Debra Burke revealed that the township

hadn’t had one done in 20 years. State statute requires that townships with a total levy of less than $850,000 have audits done every 4 years. Township Clerk Pam Erby said the township still hopes to produce an audit from

Burke’s tenure, but it is looking at other accounting firms. “We got the final bill and closed out the contract with Wipfli,” she said. “It had just gone on too long, and we had to move on.” AUDIT CONTINUED ON A4

the department’s year-end report shows. Chief Mike Kuelper attributes the increase to people calling for things that, in the past, they might not have. When he was starting out 3 decades ago, he said, police would get about only 9,000
