STERLING – Schools in the Sauk Valley had mixed composite ACT scores. Two districts saw a slight decline in composite ACT scores for the Class of 2015. One local school system saw an increase. The ACT consists of four tests: English, math, reading and science. A student’s score can range from 1 to 36. The ACT also includes a writing test. ACT CONTINUED ON A3 Photos by Alex T. Among the things happening in the Sauk Valley this week: Pam Eggemeier, Sterling/Rock Falls: Development costs: Tonight, the Sterling Council will look at a proposed agreement between the city and nonprofit economic development arm Sterling Today. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 212 Third Ave., on the first floor in the Council Chambers.

Historian talks past, present, future Kuhlemier: Citizen loyalty key to Twin Cities’ bright future
Most Sauk Valley residents know that longtime Alderman Glen Kuhlemier is a two-time mayor of Rock Falls, but many don’t realize he’s a local historian of sorts. Kuhlemier recently kicked back on his front porch (not surprisingly, with its great view of City Hall) to share some of his vast institutional knowledge. How many years have you been here, and how did you get involved in local politics? I moved to the Sauk Valley in Rock Falls Alderman Glen Kuhlemier has served two terms 1942, and my dad worked at the steel mill, and later as mayor and played a prominent role in the city’s history. Brenden West, Dixon: Low bid skepticism: The Dixon Council might reconsider its award to BP&T Co. of Mount Vernon for the Galena Avenue Bridge-painting project. Despite coming in $107,000 lower than the nextclosest bidder, the company was yet to file paperwork to start the project Friday. Councilman Mitch Tucker, who owns Dixon Paint Co., said the process takes days to complete; BP&T hadn’t filed the paperwork after weeks. The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at City Hall, 121 W. Second St. Christopher Heimerman, night news editor: Silver Linings series begins: On Saturday, the first of four installments of a series on the Hispanic history in Sterling and the Silver City boxcar settlement near Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. will be published. Jermaine Pigee, education: Brady Osborne hearing: Brady Osborne’s adjudicatory hearing will be Wednesday and Thursday. Osborne, 17, is charged with reckless conduct after a gun he was showing to 15-year-old Matt Anderson discharged into Anderson’s chest. The accident happened at Osborne’s home in Rock Falls. His father, Troy Osborne, is an Illinois State Police trooper.
