We’ll start with a quick heads-up: The Council will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, for Labor Day, giving staff, volunteers, and seniors a well-earned day to relax before the month kicks into high gear — and what a month it will be! We’re proud to kick off the month with a special Caregivers Workshop, bringing together local experts and resources to support those who give so much to others. Speakers include Connie DeArvil, LSW, from Serenity Hospice, and
Jennifer Seeley, leader of our local caregiver support group. The Lee County Council on Aging will also share tools and services available to help ease the caregiving journey. Whether you’re new to caregiving or have been doing it for years, this workshop is a meaningful chance to connect, learn, and feel supported. We’re serving up something delicious on Friday , Sept. 12 — a free breakfast and bingo! Bingo will be brought to you by Allure. It’s a perfect morning to grab a plate, win a prize, and enjoy time with friends. Even better? No exercise bikes that day; Brandan is officially giving everyone a break so you can savor the moment. On Monday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m., join local favorite Tom Wadsworth for a thought-provoking talk: “Why Lee County Has Always Been Republican: 1856–2024.” Whether you’re a history buff or just curi-
ous, it’s sure to be an afternoon of insight and great conversation. nnn Wednesday, Sept. 17 is a day to circle on your calendar ... • Start the morning with Coffee with the Mayor — bring your questions or just enjoy the company. • At 11 a.m., it’s time to move! Workout Wednesday on Sept. 3 and Beginner Line Dancing on Sept. 17, sponsored by Center Stage. Whether you’re stretching or stepping, you’re sure to have a good time. • It’ll be the first day that we’ll be taking appointments for Open Enrollment, and evening hours will be available this year. The Lee County Council on Aging will offer evening appointments during Medicare Open Enrollment (Oct. 15-Dec. 7) on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Call after Sept. 17 to schedule, and be sure to complete and return your required paper-
work at least one week before your appointment. nnn Then, on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m., the University of Illinois Extension Office will join us with their uplifting program, “Someday is Today.” If you’ve been putting off personal goals, this is the gentle nudge to get started. We’ll also be hosting our all-day Foot Clinic on Sept. 23. It’s a great chance to give your feet the TLC they deserve. And if you miss it, don’t worry: Starting in October, foot clinics will also be offered every fourth Tuesday of the month. Health is top of mind again, this time on Tuesday, Sept. 30, with a Flu shot clinic at the Center from 1-4 p.m., thanks to the Lee County Health Department. Golden Meals is a local non-profit organization that provides $3.25 meals to our 60-plus senior community and $6.25 for our 59-and-younger community, Monday through Thursday at our site. Please watch the menu calendar as they will also be providing meals on select Fridays. The Golden Meals calendar
will be posted on our Facebook page and sent out in our monthly member’s newsletter. Thank you to everyone who has been coming for lunch! The turnouts have been great, and the food is always super yummy!!

The senior centers do not require duration of residency or citizenship as a condition of participation in any services or programs funded by the Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging. Residency or citizenship may be a requirement for other programs that the senior centers may provide assistance with in application or accessing of same. Services are made available, in part, with funds provided under Title III-B of the Older American Act, and the Illinois General Revenue Funds, through the Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging. Roll up your sleeve: It’s time for a flu shot DIXON — Want to protect yourself from the flu? The Senior Center, 100 W. Second St., will host a Flu Shot Clinic from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. Walk-in appointments are welcome — no appointment necessary. Those getting a shot will need to bring their insurance or Medicare card, or be prepared to pay a small fee. High-dose shots are available for those ages 65 and older. For any questions, call the Lee County Health Department ad 815-284-3371.
