Helping the hungry Wyanet Food Pantry served 452 families in 2014 By Zita Henneberry zhenneberry@bcrnews.com
WYANET — Wyanet Food Pantry Director Kathy Crayne said the year is off to a good start, but
there is always a need for more. Together with the surrounding community, Crayne and the Wyanet Food Pantry aims to put an end to hunger in their area. “I think everyone can
help stop hunger,” said Crayne. Because the pantry hopes to help as many people as possible, Crayne said there is a saying at the Food Pantry: “Take what you need; need what you take.” Open every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Wyanet Methodist Church, clients are allowed to shop
twice a month. By limiting distribution, the pantry reaches out to help as many people as possible. The pantry is always in need of canned fruit, cereal, paper and cleaning products, said Crayne. Donations are what keep the pantry going and fuel the community assistance program that has helped so many.
Together Crayne and her volunteers at the food pantry served 1,341 individuals and 452 families throughout 2014. The clientele ranges from children to seniors and from regular shoppers to those who just need the occasional helping hand. There are many great volunteers working hard to help out this great com-
munity, Crayne added. While Crayne believes she and the food pantry have succeeded in their goal to serve, she expects her clientele to increase throughout 2015. “I think people are having a little bit of trouble this year.” Crayne has recently

MudCross Challenge coming to Bureau County Proceeds will benefit PMH Auxiliary By Goldie Currie gcurrie@bcrnews.com
PRINCETON — A never-before kind of event is coming to Bureau County this summer. Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will host the first-ever MudCross Challenge on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Sunset Ridge MotoCross Track in Walnut. Participants of the challenge will encounter a variety of physical obstacles, testing their agility and competitive wild side. While the event may sound intense for some, the challenge is geared for people of all ages with a special course designed just for kids.
Scott Hartman, a member of the PMH Auxiliary, is no stranger to running obstacle course races and was the one to give the auxiliary the idea to host this challenge as a fundraiser. Hartman completed his first obstacle course race two years ago when his brother-in-law introduced him to the run. Today, he’s got about 12 races under his belt. “I always liked working out and being active, but I really hated running road races. They are just too long and boring, so doing one of these sounded kind of interesting to me,” he said. With his experience, Hartman is sure this new event will satisfy anyone interested in a little challenge, a little mud and lots of fun.
