KAFKA LEARN TO SAIL SCHOLARSHIP Bernard (“Bernie”) Kafka, and Susan (“Sue”) Kafka, each passed away unexpectedly. This scholarship is named in their honor. They were both committed to their communities, the people they worked with and served, and most importantly their families. Bernie was a Rotarian and exemplified the Rotary Motto, Service Above Self. Sue followed in her father’s footsteps and worked tirelessly to help others to make the world a better place. They would make friends, often lifelong friends, wherever their travels took them. They encouraged, provided guidance, and exemplified the golden rule to “treat others as you would like to be treated”. They had a unique way to make the everyone they met feel special and important. Bernie and Sue also loved to spend time outdoors and appreciated the beauty of nature. Sue was an athlete and enjoyed biking, running and swimming. She raised money, often without recognition, for many charities such as the Pan Mass Challenge, cancer research, and much more. They were both avid sailors and would happily spend hours sailing and exploring Lake Massapoag. Pursuing dreams, knowledge, and friendships were important to Bernie and Sue, as was encouraging and supporting others to try new experiences. The Kafka Learn to Sail Scholarships at Lake Massapoag will be awarded to individuals who would like to learn to sail and may not be able to do so without encouragement and support. To apply: Please visit the Sharon Recreation Department and download an application. The application has directions on how to make a donation to the Kafka Learn to Sail Scholarship, please do the following: 1. Write “Kafka Learn to Sail Scholarship” in the memo line of the check. 2. Inspire Healthy Eaters! - April Vacation

Grades: 1-5 • Sharon Community Center, Kitchen

Inspire Healthy Eaters!

Grades: 1-5 • Sharon Community Center, Kitchen Kids’ Test Kitchen is on a mission to get young eaters cooking, tasting, and thinking about healthy ingredients! Let’s continue to redefine kid food; one lesson, and one child at a time! Each class presents students with an opportunity to explore new or familiar foods in their raw, unmanipulated state. Then, working as a team, we’ll slice, dice, peel, measure, and cook until we’ve prepared the finished dish. Lessons are planned to celebrate seasonal produce as much as possible. Spring brings longer, busier days! Let the kids help plan and prep dinner – we’ll work to boost their confidence in the kitchen so you can enjoy meal prep together, or maybe – maybe – you can step aside and watch! At the end of class your aspiring chef will receive the main ingredient, or a sample of the finished dish, and the recipe so that they can show off what they’ve learned! Even the most reluctant eaters enjoy KTK, where participation is expected, but tasting is always optional. Each session arrives with fresh new recipes and ideas to inspire your healthy eater! 2022 SPRING session: Edamame Salad, Ener-Cheese, Asian Inspired Broccoli, Super Spear & Orange Stir-fry, Skillet Pizza with Veggies, Green Smoothie Kids have food allergies, but they shouldn’t miss out on the fun. We know allergies and can work around them, making sure that everyone is having fun and staying safe. *Please clearly disclose all food allergies and/or dietary restrictions upon registration. Kids’ Test Kitchen is on a mission to get young eaters cooking, tasting, and thinking about healthy ingredients! Let’s continue to redefine kid food; one lesson, and one child at a time! For 6-hours over April vacation, young eaters, working together, will prepare entrées, fun snacks, and side items whose key ingredients are known to be really good for us! For 2 mornings, we’ll focus on learning practical cooking skills, while finding fun ways to enjoy the flavors of the season. We will use every second of our time together! Along with cooking and tasting, which will be the emphasis, we’ll also take short breaks to expel some energy and flex our brain muscles. Students will be dismissed each day with the focal ingredients or a sample of the finished dish, along with the printed recipe cards, so they can show off for you at home! Even the most reluctant eaters enjoy KTK, where participation is expected, but tasting is always optional. Each session arrives with fresh new recipes and ideas to inspire your healthy eater!
