MOUNT VERNON, a city of just over 32,000 residents, is located in Skagit County about 60 miles north of Seattle. The area was home to Upper Skagit Indians long before the first Europeans, mostly fur traders, passed through in the late 1700s. Sedro-Woolley & Upper Skagit SEDRO-WOOLLEY is known as the "Gateway to the North Cascades" because it is located on the western edge of the majestic Cascade Mountain Range in northwest Washington State. UPPER SKAGIT includes a number of small towns along Hwy 20 East from Sedro-Woolley. You'll pass through Lyman, Hamilton, Concrete, Rockport and Marblemount. There is much history documented in this area and worth the research for history buffs.
