This is the Rihanna I came to see. A mega star who can deliver a quality show. A diva off stage, yet a pro on stage. A girl that can actually sing and perform, not just look pretty.

Patti LuPone appeared at the Edmonds Center for the Performing Arts. Her magnificently powerful voice was easily heard throughout, as Ms. LuPone brought to life her in concert show, “Don’t Monkey With Broadway.” Assisted by a single piano player and the local vocal groups Captain Smartypants and Sensible Shoes, Ms. LuPone graciously celebrated her birthday (April 21) by giving the Edmonds’ audience a gift; she put on one damn fine concert. Opening with Cole Porter’s “Don’t Monkey With Broadway,” Ms. LuPone took to the stage and ruled it. Explaining the current production was a newly expanded incarnation of her previous in concert show, “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda… have played that part,” she sang songs from shows she’s both apsee PATTI LUPONE page 5

May is Trans Arts Month The Architecture in Seattle of Family and the Art of Self-Discovery Next month people in Seattle will be getting a lot more chances to hear stories from trans artists. Gay City, Gender Justice League, and Three Dollar Bill Cinema are proud to present Trans Arts Month, featuring performing arts, visual art, film, and more in a month long series of events celebrating the beauty and diversity of work by trans artists. “When it comes down to it, Trans Arts Month is an opportunity to humanize trans artists,” said Gay City Youth Arts Coordinator Ebo Barton. “Art doesn’t have to be highminded, and sometimes it’s just telling a story about yourself.”
