Fleet Foxes plays intimate gig at Paramount

Peerson Special to the SGN Fleet Foxes September 6 Paramount Theatre The Pacific Northwest boasts some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world, and local darlings Fleet Foxes know this very well. This is abundantly evident in their mountainous imagery and rich, organic compositions that at times sound as though they could have been created in the 1960s – or even the 1660s. On Tuesday, the Seattle-based sextet kicked off the fifth leg of their “Helplessness Blues” tour at the Paramount Theatre to an adoring and attentive audience. With an evermoving backdrop of stars, the stage was set for an intimate and downright homey evening. Right from the get-go, a few things were obvious, one of them being how much the latest addition and multi-instrumentalist Morgan Henderson brings to the Fleet Foxes. When the opening

On September 4, The Lady Chablis (r) and Athena Kiss were crowned La Femme Magnifique International and Le Femme Magnifique Plus International respectively, at the Portland, Oregon, Convention Center Grand Ballroom for the 30th La Femme Magnifique International Pageant. The drag queens of Washington state (Chablis of Seattle and Athena of Tacoma) swept the competition, which had contestants flying in from as far away as Hawaii. This was a particularly special win for The Lady Chablis, as she finally secured the title she had sought for 10 years.

Wanda Sykes has one of the most unique and recognizable voices in the entertainment industry. She has starred in numerous films, starred in television shows, hosted her own talk show, and even published a book. Sykes, who came out of the closet as a Lesbian in 2008, has not only become one of the most popular comedians in the industry but she has also become one of the loudest voices in Hollywood demanding LGBT equality. Sykes, who filmed her first television special Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, is bringing her sharp tongue and biting commentary back to the Puget Sound region on September 16 at the Pantages Theater in Tacoma.

In their place come more serious entertainments – Oscar fodder, if you will. The studios are looking to get a bit more serious as they
