Jada Starr was crowned Ms. Gay FCS (Filipino Community of Seattle) last Sunday, August 5, at the Filipino Community Center in South Seattle. Filipinos are “some of the most beautiful Gays in the world,” said pageant organizer Tita Ganda, who co-emceed with Aleksa Manila. And Ganda just might be right about that, as the four competitors (Amaya, Tyra, Carmina, and Starr) clearly showed. The FCS title is the oldest running ethnic minority pageant title in Seattle. “I was the first open Gay board member [of the FCS],” said Ganand were applauded by their fans for doing so. Last month, CNN’s Anderson Cooper came out and so did Frank Ocean, who is credited for changing the way hip-hop fans view the Gay community. Except she’s not nearly that innocent. The persona the Welsh-born Londoner presents with Electra Heart, the follow-up to her debut, The Family Jewels, is a prissy, sinfully sexual diva who aspires to be a “bottle blonde.” In our interview, Diamandis chatted about her character, Gay fans, and the dirty title pun of her first album – which she never discussed until now.
