The men of Buckaroos USA, the all-male dance revue produced by Chris Pink and Jonathan Betchtel for Can Can Productions, rode (or disrobed) into town for three packed shows at the Triple Door – and turned giddy fans into “Buck Buddies.” Although the production, called Seattle’s Premier Male Revue by its creators, was mainly marketed

towards female clientele, the cowboys onstage performed a show that is fun for both men and women. The production ranged from audience participation to choreographed strip teases; what Betchtel and Pink (both men are seven-year veterans at Can Can Productions) achieve with Buckaroos USA is that the show brings together all the elements of a classic male revue while keeping it fun and lightsee buckaroo page 16 Xavier Lopez jr.

Meet Xavier Lopez Jr., muralist and community builder by Shaun Knittel SGN Associate Editor Art, like people, comes in many forms. For decades the LGBT community has worked to secure our rights as citizens – first-class, that is, not second. What we’ve known all along is that we couldn’t win the fight alone so we have turned to our straight allies for help. Many of them have answered that call and are helping to change our lives forever. TROUBLE IN MIND INTIMAN THEATRE Through September 15 Out of the four productions of Intiman’s 2013 summer festival, Alice Childress’ Trouble in Mind is by far the most important and well-done. Directed by the talented and passionate Valerie Curtis-Newton, who brought it to Intiman’s attention, this taut yet ironically funny play speaks directly to the topic of race – a conversation that ought to be engaged in today. Childress wrote contemporaneously, setting the play in the mid-1950s, and yet many of the trenchant observations are still timely, despite our fondness for thinking we’re in a post-racial culture.
