All I can say is “Wow!” Last Sunday was the single best Pride Idol night in the show’s history. The contestants came to win, and it showed. Smirnoff, Seattle’s Best Karaoke, Neighbours Seattle, Seattle Gay News, and MOViN 92.5 present Seattle Pride Idol. The 2012 Pride Idol is a citywide singing contest hosted by Seattle Out and Proud (SO&P), running every Sunday night at Neighbours Seattle leading up to 2012 Seattle Pride.

Is this Jack Black’s first Gay role? As a small-town Texan teddy bear who goes off the deep end, it might be. But, because the real-life man he’s playing isn’t out, we may never truly know. Enter Bernie, an offbeat black comedy based on a true story of a flamboyant people-pleaser who befriends the local she-devil, and then turns on her. As the titular mortician who is, as one townie calls him, “light in the loafers,” Jack – known for fun-loving roles in School of Rock and Tropic Thunder, and a hilarious kidnapping cameo in last year’s The Muppets – is totally non-Black, playing Bernie Tiede with understated finesse, an effeminate lisp and an endearing touch. We got Black on the phone for an exclusive chat about his maybe-Gay turn, what he has in common with Bernie, and how LGBT rights is a “no-brainer” issue for him. The champ gets all the glory and runners-up are sent away with a bouquet of good-luck flowers. Well, not this time. Lambert’s popularity soared immediately and kept growing, ultimately making him the most recognized male Idol of the show’s entire run (now in its 11th season). A Grammy nominee, LGBT advocate, platinum-selling recording artist, transAtlantic pop star, and a credible replacement for Queen’s frontman sums up a short, impressive professional career for the San

The Avengers Opening May 4 My adoration for Joss Whedon knows few boundaries. It goes back to his Buffy the Vampire Slayer days and has grown exponentially thanks to Firefly, Serenity, and his and Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods,

but I can’t say I was thrilled at the prospect of him handling the Marvel Comics superhero mashup The Avengers. Comic films have a long history of falling to pieces once too many heroes and villains get in on the action – over-stuffing being the very thing that doomed the likes of SpiderMan 3, X-Men: The Last Stand, see avengers page 33
