For 29 years, RuPaul – more commonly known these days as simply “Ru” – has done it big: big hair, big ideas, big hits. In 1993, Ru made her mainstream debut with the release of “Supermodel

(You Better Work),” which catapulted her to international fame and earned her the title of RuPaul: Supermodel of the World. Drag would never be the same. Then, in 2009, the world’s love affair with RuPaul rekindled when she taught us all to “put the bass” in our walk with the launch of the wildly successful reality television show RuPaul’s Drag Race. Drag has officially gone mainstream. RuPaul is at the helm of a drag queen revolution with no end in sight. She is diva personified, and we love her for it. I caught up with Ru this week to talk about Drag Race, her affinity

The Seattle Men’s Chorus production of Falling in Love Again

Seattle Men’s Chorus’ Falling in Love Again April 2-3 McCaw Hall Probably the boldest-ever compilation of material by Seattle Men’s Chorus was Falling in Love Again, heard April 2 and 3 at McCaw Hall. Not only was the production a risk artistically, it was a risk organizationally to sell enough seats for a concert about a subject many want to avoid: the Holocaust. Falling in Love Again left the audience wildly praising the groundbreaking experience, which mixed a first act of fun and frivolity with a second-act opera which told the love story of two young men torn apart by the Nazi death camps. Oh, what a night! The April 3 R&B-infused Seattle Out & Proud Pride Idol was full of smooth sounds and big prizes. The competition was turned up a notch with the best round of performances yet! Pride Idol is a citywide singing contest produced and presented by SO&P, Verizon Wireless, FUZE, Seattle’s Best Karaoke, and Seattle Gay News every Sunday night at Neighbours Nightclub (1509 Broadway) and is hosted by Gaysha Starr. Doors open at 6 p.m. where contestants
