Gay icon relates herself to “strong women” in new film, talks being an outsider and the latest era of her career
by Chris Azzopardi SGN Contributing Writer With all of Madonna’s metamorphoses throughout her balls-out career, slipping in and out of cultural zeitgeists (and accents), the queen chameleon is still the master of reinvention. Just don’t tell her that. “Please don’t throw those tired old clichés at me,” Madonna playfully insists, nodding her head at me in half-kidding agitation. (Hey, at least it wasn’t hydrangeas.) Her annoyance is marked with cheekiness – and a smile – that only the first lady of pop can pull off, and has for three desee madonna page 32

Super Bowl XLVI is just days away, and the excitement surrounding the big game and Madonna’s highly anticipated halftime performance is at a fevered pitch. Beer, jocks, and Madonna – what’s not to love? There’s been so much speculation about Madge’s halftime performance you’d almost forget there was a game to watch. But seriously, Seattle Gay News is well aware of our sports-loving fans, so we don’t dare leave out important information about the actual game (we’ll get to Madonna later!). Super Bowl XLVI could easily be called the “Super Rematch.” Four years ago in Glendale, Arizona, the New York Giants shocked the New England Patriots in what many rank as the greatest Super Bowl of all time. Come Sunday, the same two teams will be at it again. “The venue has changed, as has the cast of characters, but

Terri White: Fujiya & Miyagi Why the lady’s heat things up got to sing at Neumos Terri White is the true definition of the American success story. Her life has come full circle, from Broadway performer and queen of cabaret to living homeless in Central Park, and now back again in one of the most acclaimed revivals on Broadway. She’s appeared on stage with Jim Dale and Glenn Close in the musical Barnum, and has been on video with Liza Minnelli (“Stepping Out at Radio City”) and Rue McClanahan in the musical Nunsense and its subsequent sequels. She has sung the parody “Screamgirls” for the 20th-anniversary recording of the Forbidden Broadway series, and has her own solo CD entitled The Lady’s Got to Sing. Fresh from her triumphant role in the acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, this incredible woman spoke with Seattle Gay News as she prepared for the revival’s opening in Los Angeles.
