The Navy permanently removed Captain Owen Honors, a senior officer in command of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, on January 4 because of raunchy comedy videos he made and showed to the crew several years ago when he was the ship’s executive officer. The videos, which include antiGay slurs and sexual innuendo, showed extremely poor judgment by Capt. Honors, said the commander of U.S. Fleet Forces, Admiral John C. Harvey, Jr. “While Capt. Honors’ performance as commanding officer of USS Enterprise has been without incident, his profound lack of good judgment and professionalism while previously serving as executive officer on Enterprise calls into question his character and completely undermines his credibility to continue to serve effectively in command,” Harvey said in a statement read to reporters in Norfolk on January 4.

by Shaun Knittel SGN Associate Editor Seattle will host LGBT Chambers of Commerce, convention and visitor bureaus, travel planners and chamber businesses at the first West Coast LGBT Tourism Summit from January 6-8 at the Seattle Renaissance Hotel. According to Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) officials, President of Horizon Airlines Glenn Johnson will deliver the keynote speech, and experts from leading market research, public relations, and social media firms such as Nyhus Communications, Community Marketing, Inc., and Pink Banana Media will host sessions on developing a successful inbound tourism initiative. The 2011 West Coast LGBT Tourism Summit will focus on providing tools for attendees to attract LGBT tourism to their city, according to a GSBA press release. “By following GSBA’s lead of forming partnerships with private and public organizations, local travel organizations can bolster the LGBT tourism industry in their area,” said the GSBA in a written
