Pride Idol week 7: Moon wins by Shaun Knittel SGN Associate Editor One of the most enduring aspects of Pride Idol, since its humble beginnings a few years back, is that so many contestants return to give it another shot. Each time, they show improvement and the audience gets to know them better. A familiar face, a good voice, and a sense of community – 2012 Pride Idol week seven is the perfect example of “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Of the week’s seven contestants, five were familiar with the Pride Idol stage. One of them, Moon, went on to win.

Can you tell us a little about how Burlesque: Strip Strip Hooray! originated?

Dita Von Teese: Thank you! I’ve been wanting to do a full-length revue for a while now, because I’ve spent a lot of time guest starring – at the Crazy Horse in Paris, or in a few different shows in Europe, and I get hired a lot for private events and things like that – but for a while I’ve really wanted to do my own show [where] people can come to see me (laughs) and get a chance to see all my biggest production numbers in one show. There’s something different when it’s an audience of fans, real fans. It’s different – a different feeling, a different vibe. Price: In live burlesque (as opposed to a photo shoot or fashion show), do you call on a different part of your personality and skills? Dita: Definitely. I guess it always depends on your mood but I feel like it’s what I’m really meant to do. It’s fun doing photo shoots, but not all the time. Sometimes I feel like I’d really like to be doing my real job, probably like actors who don’t want to sit and do interviews all day; they’d like to go act and do what they do instead of just talking about what they do. Photo shoots can be very glamorous and really exciting and creative, but for me there’s nothing that see dita page 33

Seattle’s leading man:
An interview with Brian Stokes Mitchell by Eric Andrews-Katz SGN A&E Writer MARVIN HAMLISCH’S AMERICAN SONGBOOK SEATTLE SYMPHONY MAY 31 – JUNE 3 Brian Stokes Mitchell is the true definition of a theatrical leading man. Not only is he handsome with a strong stage presence, but his rich baritone voice conjures memories of great male actors of the Great White Way: Alfred Drake, Howard Keel, or Richard Kiley, to name a few. He was seen on Trapper John, M.D. for over seven years and has appeared on Broadway 10 times, earning several award nominasee mitchell page 32
