DISCRIMINATION DEEP DIVE by Hannah Saunders SGN Contributing Writer On Oct. 6 King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert released a racist reelection campaign mailer targeting her opponent in the upcoming Nov. 2 election, Sarah Perry, as well as the only Black King County Councilmember, Girmay Zahilay. On the campaign mailer, Perry’s head was photoshopped onto a puppet’s body, with Councilmember Zahilay holding the strings, accompanied by the words “Sarah Perry would be a socialist puppet on the Eastside pushing their agenda” and “Sarah Perry is backed by Seattle socialist leader Girmay Zahilay, who wants to defund the police.”

by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer US Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine became the first openly Transgender four-star admiral in a swearing-in ceremony on October 19. She is also the country’s highest-ranking openly Transgender government official.
Although she was not previously connected with the US military, Levine was sworn in as an officer of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a uniformed branch of the US government that is charged with responding to public health crises.

by Renee Raketty SGN Contributing Writer Nicole Thomas-Kennedy is running for Seattle city attorney against Ann Davison in the general election on November 2. The pair defeated Pete Holmes, an incumbent who had held the job since 2010, in the August primary election.
However, unlike her opponent, who ran for Seattle City Council in 2019 and for lieutenant governor of Washington (as a Republican) in 2020, she is a newcomer to politics. “I’ve definitely never considered running for any other office. I don’t really
