President Biden signs $1.9 trillion economic relief package President Joe Biden – Photo by Andrew Harnik / AP
by Paige McGlauflin SGN Contributing Writer President Joe Biden signed the $1.9 trillion stimulus package on Thursday, following its final approval in the House on Wednesday. The economic relief bill is one of the largest packages in U.S. history, second only to the $2 trillion package approved just under a year ago by the Trump administration.
The Democratic-led Congress pushed to have the stimulus package approved before federal unemployment benefits expire on March 14. The Senate approved its own version of the legislation with a 50-49 vote on Saturday, and the House gave final approval to the Senate’s version on Wednesday. Every Republican in the House and Senate, and one House Democrat, Jared Golden (D-Maine), voted against the relief bill.
