MONISHA HARRELL NAMED SENIOR DEPUTY MAYOR by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer LGBTQ activist Monisha Harrell will be senior deputy mayor when Mayor-elect Bruce Harrell is sworn in this coming January. Monisha Harrell is the mayor-elect’s niece and was his campaign manager. “Monisha Harrell brings over a decade of leadership as one of the state’s foremost leaders addressing police reform, including service as a deputy monitor for Seattle’s long-standing federal consent decree,” said the December 13 announcement from the City of Seattle press office.

by Nick Rapp SGN Contributing Writer During the holiday season, some people gather with their families, others gather with friends, and some must work while others relax. This December, Seattle drag favorites and RuPaul’s Drag Race stars BenDeLaCreme and Jinkx Monsoon are among those working hard — but there’s nothing they would rather be doing. of the Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show, LIVE!, is coming to the Neptune Theatre for five days (Dec. 21–24 & Dec. 26). Co-starring and co-written by Jinkx and DeLa, this year’s production is their fourth holiday show and the third international tour produced by DeLa (also the director) under her production company BenDeLaCreme Presents, which also produced the duo’s previous shows and the 2020 film, The Jinkx and DeLa Holiday Special on Hulu.

by Lindsey Anderson SGN Contributing Writer We’ve all been there: sitting at an awkward stand-up performance, when the comedian starts to talk about his wife. There are complaints about her cooking, her intelligence, her mother… and let’s be honest, it’s never funny. One Seattle comedy group is well aware of this trend and has decided to stop the crickets and toxic masculinity with a hilarious
women-and-Nonbinary show, Men Aren’t Funny — a clever play on the old critique of female comedians — featuring some of the city’s most hilarious stand-up performers. The location of the show changes each time. The latest performance was Sunday, December 12, at the Royal Room, which sold out online before tickets could even hit the booth. In fact, “every show has sold out,” said comedian Dewa Dorje.
