MARTINEZ CASE ENTERS COURT PROCEEDINGS

Tru Starlet, former Miss Lewis County and Miss Olympia, victim of homicide

by Renee Raketty SGN Contributing Writer Rikkey Outumuro, known to many as Tru Starlet, was the victim of a brutal homicide in her home in Centralia, Washington. She was 39 years old. Her boyfriend, Cristopher Allen Gaudreau, 28, has been charged with her murder and is being held at the Lewis County Jail without bail.

“The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against the suspect in this case,” Scott Jackson, senior deputy prosecuting attorney for Lewis County, told the SGN on Tuesday. “The defendant has been charged with murder in the first degree. We cannot comment further about a pending case.” Gaudreau’s arraignment was scheduled for Nov. 5 in Lewis County Superior Court.

by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer The US Department of Justice and the Social Security Administration announced on November 1 that Social Security survivor benefits will now be authorized for same-sex spouses and partners who previously were denied access because of bans on same-sex marriage.

According to the announcement, the two agencies decided to drop Trump-era appeals in two lawsuits claiming the benefits for surviving same-sex partners. Lambda Legal filed one of the suits on behalf of Helen Thornton, a Washington woman whose partner Marge Brown died of cancer in 2006. The two had been
