Make PrEP free, Kamala Harris says

by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) debuted health care legislation on June 20 that would provide free PrEP medication to everyone with health insurance. Harris is a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
According to Harris’s office, one million Americans could benefit from access to PrEP, but only 7% of them currently have a prescription. Truvada, the drug commonly prescribed for PrEP, costs $20,000 per year, Harris’s office estimates, putting it out of reach for people without good health care insurance.
