by Jesse Monteagudo SGN Contributing Writer In 1999 I wrote an article, “Stonewall at Thirty,” where I discussed the Stonewall Uprising and what the event meant for us thirty years later. In 2004 I wrote another column, “Stonewall at Thirty-Five,” which was basically a rehash of the 1999 piece. I also wrote about Stonewall for an encyclopedia, Youth, Education, and Sexualities, edited by James T. Sears (2005), not one of my best efforts. Though I still think of Stonewall as the most important event in LGBTQ history, its meaning has changed as we changed over the years, both as individuals and as part of an LGBTQ community. What used to be a truly subversive event – queers resisting police oppression – has become banal; a way to sell products or services or an excuse to throw a party.

Fifty years ago, I was a 16-year old high school student in Miami; and I did not learn about Stonewall until I read my first gay newspaper two years later. Today, almost every high school student in America knows about Stonewall. What was once unmentionable is now part of our countryʼs political and social history. Former President Barack Obama brought Stonewall, and the LGBTQ movement that it represents, up to the level of the feminist and civil rights movements when he named it along with the Seneca Falls Convention (1848) and

the Selma March (1965) as a major event in the history of American freedom. (The fact that all three events start with an S helped.)

History books that once would have ignored the Stonewall Uprising and the LGBTQ movement now mention both, if briefly. In 2011 PBS first broadcast “Stonewall Uprising: as part of its “American Experience” series, giving the event its seal of approval. Then in 2016 the Stonewall Inn and its surroundings became a National Monument. All this happened during the Obama years, a period of history when, to use the title of a book by Ta-Nehisi Coates, “we were eight years in power.” Donald Trump and his evangelical base would never allow a Stonewall National Monument, though the fact that there are no fossil fuels below Greenwich Village means that the monument will continue to exist, at least for now.

Though the memory of Stonewall brings the LGBTQ community together once a year, if only to party, the event continues to create controversy within our community.

Even the make-up of the Stonewall rioters leads to many arguments: were they young, mostly-white, gay men or young, mostlyblack or brown, trans women? In a way I think the debate is a healthy one, if only because it finally gives a Stonewall veteran like Miss Major Griffin-Gracy the recognition that she deserves. On the other hand, arguing the presence of this or that person

or group can get tedious, like the debate on what trans Latinx activist Sylvia Rivera was actually doing on June, 28, 1969: challenging the cops outside the Stonewall Inn or passed out on a nearby bench. I think the distinguishing mark of the Stonewall rioters was mostly economic and not racial or gender. These people – women or men, trans or cis, Black or Latinx or white – hung out at the Stonewall because they had nowhere else to go, unlike the well-off gays who were enjoying the weekend on the West Side or on Fire Island.

Though the Stonewall Uprising was by no means the start of the LGBTQ movement, it happened at the right place and the right time: in Greenwich Village at the tail end of a tumultuous decade. Stonewall only happened because of Selma and Seneca Falls Convention (and their aftermath).

Events like the Comptonʼs Cafeteria Riot in San Francisco (1966) or the Black Cat Riot in Los Angeles (1967) did not get the attention that Stonewall did. It helped that activists like the late Craig Rodwell saw the Stonewall Uprising as a useful tool and worked to make its anniversary a symbol of queer resistance and community. All in all, we should continue to honor Stonewall for what it was and what it represents, though always remembering those who made Stonewall possible. If Stonewall never existed, another event would surely take its place.

Stop the Bans Rally, Seattle, WA, May 21, 2019 Radical Women in numerous cities joined thousands of feminists across the US in coming out May 21 to denounce the outrageous attacks on legal abortion being enacted in Alabama, Georgia, and dozens of other states. National Organizer Helen Gilbert spoke at the Seattle event (see text of her speech below). I’m Helen Gilbert, the national organizer for Radical Women.

Radical Women has been fighting for reproductive rights since our founding.

We’re proud that our earliest members worked with Black women from the antipoverty program to hold one of Washington’s first rallies for legal abortion at the state capitol in Olympia. We’re proud that Radical Women members have confronted the fetus fetishists in clinic defense in Seattle; Los Angeles; New York City; Melbourne, Australia; and elsewhere. We need to step up clinic defense now because the abortion bans are going to make the anti-choicers even more aggressive.

We need to be just as aggressive in defending women’s lives. The religious right is not just about stopping abortion but

controlling every aspect of women’s lives.

We need to stand for and with those most under attack: Black and Native American women who are at highest risk of death in childbirth and infant mortality. We need to fight with a multi-issue focus, knowing that reproductive justice has to include free abortion on demand, affordable childcare,

no forced sterilization, health care and housing for all, and an end to the racist prison pipeline that separates families just as much as ICE does. To keep abortion legal, we need a militant, feminist movement that’s out in the streets with all communities under attack. We need to call on our unions to defend the rights of their

members. We need to show how assaults on legal abortion are just the beginning of the reactionary agenda of the Trump regime and the far right.

Since Roe v Wade was won, we’ve spent a lifetime trying to hold on to our rights.

We’ve been told to pin our hopes on one more candidate, one more sympathetic judge. Meanwhile, we’ve lost more and more ground. This incremental fight isn’t working.

We can’t spend another lifetime to win women’s right to control our own bodies.

We can’t spend another lifetime trying to stop racist and anti-trans violence and deadly US wars that victimize women and children all over the world. As we mobilize for abortion rights and reproductive justice, we need to build a movement to overthrow this whole, woman-hating racist capitalist system.

We can’t take another lifetime to win a socialist world, where human rights and environmental sanity are the highest values. Let’s build the reproductive justice fight into a mass movement that challenges patriarchal capitalism at every level. That’s the only way to be sure that the rights we fight for today will still exist tomorrow.

Talking about the experience you’ve had reading a book is one of the greatest pleasures a good book offers. Only one person came to the four meetings in April discussing Tennessee Williams. Only one came to the four meetings in May discussing Leading Men. I love hearing other people’s ideas about books. I’ve sat alone waiting in the café once too often. So let me say, I’d sure love to know what you think of Simeon Wade’s Foucault in California, in which almost all the people in the book are gay, though it’s not about sex – it’s about

a gay guy getting his gay hero, the French philosopher, to join him dropping acid in Death Valley in 1975. Just the story of how the manuscript survived is a heartfelt tale of determined journalism. But if not, if no one comes to the June meetings, it will be the last selection of our club.

It’s a short, lovely little book – with a glossy white cover showing a handsome photo of bald Foucault wearing Technicolor-infused sunglasses. It only takes a couple days to read. I’d love to know what you think of it! It costs $22 – tell the cashier at University Book Store you’re buying it for the book club, and get 20% off.

Washingtonians unhappy with Donald Trump, want to replace him with a Democrat in 2020 REDMOND, Wash. (May 28, 2019) – Voters in Washington State overwhelmingly disapprove of Donald Trump and would support a Democratic challenger if the 2020 presidential election were being held now, according to a new statewide survey commissioned by the Northwest Progressive Institute (NPI).

Sixty-one percent of respondents said they disapproved of Trump, while only 35% approved. Four percent were not sure.

Fifty-nine percent of respondents said they would support Trump’s Democratic opponent if the election were being held now, while 34% said they would vote for Trump.

Seven percent were not sure.

Conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP), the survey of 886 likely 2019 Wash-

ington state voters was in the field May 21–22, 2019. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.3% at the 95% confidence level and utilizes a blended methodology, with automated phone calls to landlines and online interviews of cellphone-only respondents.

One year ago, [the Northwest Progressive Institute (NPI)] and PPP found that 59% of Washington voters disapproved of Trump, while 35% approved and 6% were not sure.

Within just Eastern Washington, Trump has gone from plurality disapproval (48%) in 2018 to majority disapproval (51%) in 2019, suggesting that his catastrophic policies are taking a toll on his support even in areas he carried in 2016.

be a big problem for the Washington State Republican Party in 2020,” said Northwest Progressive Institute founder and executive director Andrew Villeneuve. “Trump’s presence on the ballot next year could be like an anvil that drags the entire ticket, hurting the reelection prospects of Republican incumbents like State Treasurer Duane Davidson, or Republican legislators representing districts like the 6th or the 10th.”

“While Trump didn’t carry Washington in 2016, he did do well in rural areas of the state, capturing even some counties that have been voting Democratic in presidential contests for decades,” Villeneuve noted. “Our data suggests that 2020 could be a different story. It’s particularly significant that most voters we surveyed east of

the Cascades do not approve of Trump and would vote for his Democratic opponent if the election were being held today.”

Celebrating 45 Years!

Supreme Court allows school district restroom policies supporting Transgender students to stand WASHINGTON, DC (May 28, 2019) – The Supreme Court today declined to hear Doe v. Boyertown Area School District, allowing school districts to continue to support transgender students by allowing them to use restrooms that match their gender.

In 2016, the Boyertown Area School District began to allow transgender students to use restrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender while also allowing all students the option of using private facilities. A group of non-transgender students sued Boyertown, arguing that the Constitution requires boys and girls who are transgender to be excluded from the facilities that other boys and girls use.

They also argued that the mere presence of transgender students in common restrooms and locker rooms is sexual harassment.

The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the idea that transgender students are a threat to other students and ruled in favor of the school district. In a powerful opinion, the court recognized that forcing transgender students to use separate facilities from everyone else would “publicly brand all transgender students with a scarlet ‘T,’ and they should not have to endure that as the price of attending their public school.”

The American Civil Liberties Union represents the Pennsylvania Youth Congress, a coalition of LGBTQ youth leaders and youth organizations, which intervened in the case to defend the district’s right to allow transgender students to use restrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender. The law firm Cozen O’Connor is cooperating counsel.

Ria Tabacco Mar, senior staff attorney with the ACLU LGBT & HIV Project, had the following response: “This is an enormous victory for transgender students across the country. Boyertown’s schools chose to be inclusive and welcoming of transgender students in 2016,

a decision the courts have affirmed again and again. This lawsuit sought to reverse that hard-won progress by excluding transgender students from school facilities that other students use. That would have increased the stigma and discrimination that transgender students already face.

“Thankfully, today’s announcement allows schools to move forward with policies that support transgender students. But our work is far from over. We will continue to defend the transgender community from attacks in the courts, the legislatures, and the White House.”

Aidan DeStefano, a recent graduate of Boyertown High who is transgender, had the following response: “By the time I graduated high school, I was using the boys’ bathroom and partici-

pating on the boys’ cross country team. I felt like I belonged and had the confidence I needed to continue with my education. I’m glad the Supreme Court is allowing schools like mine to continue supporting transgender students.”

continued from cover The high court’s decision leaves such policies in place, at least for now, and represents a victory for Trans rights. The high court will only take up cases that at least four justices vote to hear.

The case, Doe v. Boyertown Area School District, originated with a group of four students at a Pennsylvania high school, who claimed that their privacy rights were violated by a school policy allowing Trans students to use facilities that matched their gender identities.

The four were represented by the antiLGBT hate group, Alliance Defending Freedom.

The central legal issue is the interpretation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which forbids schools that receive federal funds – in other words, almost all schools in the US – from discriminating on the basis of sex.

The Obama administration believed that the language of Title IX also protected gender identity. When that reading of Title IX was challenged by lawsuits, the Supreme Court was preparing to review

Pride Foundation celebrates achievements Dear Friends:

May has been a packed month here at Pride Foundation – but in the best kind of way. I hope this spring has held the same abundance and energy for you as it has for us.

Here are just 3 of the cool things that have been happening this month at Pride Foundation that are helping to build community for LGBTQ+ folks and our families in the Northwest: 1. Last week, we were thrilled to announce our 2019 Scholars! Thanks to the support of our generous community, we awarded $540,000 to 135 amazing student leaders, and we couldn’t be more honored to support them on their educational journeys. We hope you can join us to celebrate these incredible students at our Scholarship Celebrations happening across the region over the next month—beginning next Wednesday in Seattle!

2. Our 2019-2020 Community Grants application is now open! This year we anticipate awarding more than half a million dollars to support the incredible organizations that are helping create a better world for LGBTQ+ people. Please share this opportunity with your networks and learn more about the guidelines and process here.

3. This past weekend, our staff and board traveled from across the 5-state region to Spokane, Washington for our annual retreat. We got to celebrate with more than 70 community members from Central and Eastern Washington and North Idaho at a special gathering on Friday night to celebrate all that we have overcome, and all that we have accomplished together.

During our retreat, we also had the privilege to learn from our brilliant and generous colleagues and friends at Native Americans in Philanthropy, who led us in The Blanket Exercise, a participatory history lesson that

fosters understanding and reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous people. We hope to incorporate the deep learning we gained from this experience as we continue to center racial justice at Pride Foundation and work to become more intentional and thoughtful about how we engage

with, support, and invest in Native American communities in the Northwest.

This month has left our hearts incredibly full, and we are excited for all the future holds. We are so deeply grateful for all of the ways you show up every day for equity and justice for our communities.

White Center hosts its first ever LGBTQ+ Pride June 5-9 What began as an idea between 2 friends having a drink at The Lumber Yard Bar has turned into a full-blown Pride celebration in White Center. Recently, White Center has become a popular destination for the Seattle area LGBT+ community. “There has been a lot of talk that White Center is becoming the new Capitol Hill. But we’re not looking to be the new Capitol Hill. We want White Center to be White Center. We just want more people to be able to experience it.” a spokesperson said. The 5-day event incorporates long-time established businesses with newer bars and restaurants.

Official Kickoff The festivities will kick-off on June 5 at 7pm with a Pride Flag raising at Triangle Park (16th Ave SW & SW Roxbury St) in the heart of White Center. Christine Spencer, from Mac’s Triangle Pub (9454 Delridge Way SW), will raise the flag. Spencer, a well-known and respected figure in White Center, was the obvious choice to lead the ceremony. The Triangle Pub has long been known as a place that is welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community. Following the flag raising, Southgate Roller Rink (9646 17th Ave SW) will host Pride Skate Night. Southgate has offered a monthly Pride Skate Night for several years. What started as a small event has created a cult following that draws a higher number of skaters each month.

Continued Celebrations The remainder of the celebrations will occur at various bars and restaurants. There will be a BBQ & Drag event at Drunky Two Shoes BBQ (9655 16th Ave SW) on Thursday, June 6. The show will feature the Rat City Queens. Friday night will include The Swallow Bar (9608 16th Ave SW), the newest gay bar in the neighborhood, and a swimwear themed party at the Lumber Yard Bar (9619 16th Ave SW). The Lumber Yard opened in January of 2018 and has been extremely popular, known for its friendly staff and creative event nights.

The weekend will round out with karaoke at Mac’s Triangle Pub and a main event party at The Lumber Yard on Saturday night; and a Sunday Funday Gay Pride Fair at Future Primitive Brewing (9832 14th Ave SW) which will feature local vendors.

The celebration will wrap up with a Sunday afternoon tea dance at The Lumber Yard.

The goal is to grow Pride over the next few years to offer a street fair and include more of the local businesses. There has been a large amount of positive feedback from the neighborhood and interest in future involvement. Volunteers and businesses can still get involved by emailing info@ whitecenterpride.org.

Vashon Heritage Museum unveils new exhibit June 7: “IN AND OUT: Being LGBTQ on Vashon Island” On Friday, June 7, from 6 to 9pm Vashon Heritage Museum (10105 SW Bank Road, Vashon) invites you to attend the opening of its largest special exhibit ever: “IN AND OUT: Being LGBTQ on Vashon Island.”

More than a year in the making, the exhibit explores the long, quiet history of LGBTQ people on Vashon Island – their challenges, contributions and visions.

To create the exhibit, co-curators Ellen Kritzman and Stephen Silha interviewed over a dozen people, spoke with old-time Islanders, issued a questionnaire asking about LGBTQ life, assembled a multigenerational advisory committee, and held a “story circle.” They researched articles and family histories, put out the word for photos and artifacts, and searched for film and videos.

Even though Vashon has the highest per capita population of LGBTQ people in Washington state (and one of the highest in the country), there is no cohesive queer community here today.

Yet the Island hosts a rich assortment of families, individuals, artists, entrepreneurs, gardeners, chefs, organizers and public servants who consider themselves LGBTQ. The exhibit includes a timeline of LGBTQ history, a honeycomb of stories about Island queer history, an AIDS memorial garden curated by Terry Welch and Peter Serko, and a display by Vashon High School’s largest student organization, the Queer Spectrum Alliance (QSA).

“It has been an enormous privilege to have folks be willing to be fully OUT of the closet, and open up their lives to us, and

to you. We hope we have made the exhibit interesting and impactful for everyone, gay and straight and everywhere on the spectrum,” Kritzman and Silha wrote in their curators’ statement.

Seattle Pride is kicking off this year’s Pride celebration with the tenth annual Volunteer Park Pride Festival from noon to 7pm. on Saturday, June 8 in Seattle. The event is Pride’s annual celebration of queer arts, music, performance and culture. The free event will feature a beer garden, food trucks, local crafts fair, sponsor and community nonprofit informational booths, and is highlighted by live concert performances.

“The Volunteer Park Pride Festival keeps getting bigger and better every year,” says Seattle Pride Board President Kevin Toovey. “The Festival began in 2009 as a family picnic with hot dogs and inflatable bounce-houses and has grown into a fullblown festival with a beer garden, food trucks and top name musical acts – there’s truly something for everyone.”

Civil rights groups sue HHS over Trump health care rules New rules allow “faith-based” discrimination, seek to erase Trans protections

by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer Lambda Legal, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and the Center for Reproductive Rights filed a lawsuit on May 28, charging that the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was illegally fostering discrimination against LGBT patients and women in the provision of health services.

The three groups are representing Trust Women Seattle, Hartford GYN, WhitmanWalker Health, the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the Center on Halsted, the Mazzoni Center, GLMA, the Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists, Medical Students for Choice, the County of Santa Clara, and several private physicians.

HHS, challenges new Trump administration regulations allowing health care providers to claim personal religious or moral beliefs as a reason to refuse service to LGBT patients and women seeking abortions or contraceptive care.

Health care facilities that do not comply – in other words, those that require doctors, nurses, EMTs, and other medical staff to treat every person who presents themselves – could be denied federal funding. This is the exact opposite of the policy under the Obama administration.

Plaintiffs in the lawsuit say that the new rules will cause mass confusion among health care providers and are completely infeasible to implement. As a result, health care facilities may do away with reproductive and LGBT services altogether, leaving millions without access to critical health care.

The new rules are unconstitutional, the plaintiffs continue, because they advance specific religious beliefs in violation of the First Amendment; violate patients’ rights to privacy, liberty, and equal dignity as guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment; and chill patients’ speech and expression in violation of the First Amendment, all to the detriment of patients’ health and well-being.

The lawsuit also says that HHS violated the federal Administrative Procedure Act in creating the rule by arbitrarily and capriciously failing to consider the impact on patients.

Rules on Trans patients Among the new HHS rules is one that proposes eliminating gender identity as a

protected class in health care and government policy. The new rule would reverse protections in the Affordable Care Act made by the Obama administration in 2016 that protected gender identity under the category of “discrimination on the basis of sex.”

The Trump administration is proposing that the term “sex” should now be open to interpretation by individual health care providers, thus removing specific protections for Trans people.

“This proposed rule is yet another outright attack from the Trump administration on the health, well-being, and survival of transgender people,” Kris Hayashi, executive director of the Transgender Law Center, said in a statement.

“Everyone should be able to go to the doctor when we need help without being turned away or denied treatment because of who we are. That’s what the law says, yet in practice, many transgender people still face devastating discrimination in health care.

“This rule dangerously encourages illegal discrimination, putting the lives of transgender people in jeopardy – particularly for trans people living with HIV, black transgender people and people of color, trans people with disabilities, and rural and Southern trans folks.”

Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, added, “This is not about free health care or special treatment. It’s about the right of every American to be treated with dignity when they walk into an emergency room, meet a new doctor, or find the right insurance plan.

“If permitted, this rule will promote ignorance and hate that no American should have to face while seeking care, and we are ready to fight it with everything we’ve got.”

“Discrimination in the delivery of health care can be a matter of life or death. This new policy could threaten anyone seeking medical care in this country but will fall particularly hard on women and LGBTQ patients,” said Nancy Northup, president and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights. “The Trump administration is skirting congressional approval to push through this extreme and dangerous policy. It’s a glaring violation of patients’ right to equal treatment.”

“The Trump administration will stop at nothing to sanction discrimination in the name of religion in every facet of our lives,” said Rachel Laser, president and CEO of Americans United. “We will not tolerate this dangerous policy that puts the health of women, LGBTQ people, religious minorities, and so many others in jeopardy. Our government should be protecting America’s patients, not putting their lives at risk and calling it religious freedom. The Constitution does not condone this type of grave harm to others.”

“This rule encourages discrimination against vulnerable patients already facing barriers to care,” said James R. Williams, Santa Clara County Counsel. “It places an enormous burden on public health care networks like the county’s, which already have robust protections in place to accommodate employees’ religious objections without compromising care to the communities we serve.”

The rule applies to all health care facilities that receive federal funding through HHS, which includes most hospitals.

Threatened with the loss of all federal funding and facing confusing and unworkable requirements, many health care facilities will face strong incentives to do away with critical health care services for women and the LGBTQ community.

The rule could also lead to many LGBTQ patients not fully disclosing their identity and medical history for fear of discrimination, resulting in improper or incomplete care. While marginalized communities are the intended target, the rule is so broad that the religious objections of a health care worker could result in anyone – the elderly, children, and those in critical condition – being denied lifesaving medical care.

The proposed regulations also seek to permit, yet again, health care entities and workers to be able to deny insurance or care to LGBT patients or policy holders because of personal, religious, or moral beliefs, endangering the lives of LGBT people.

by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer Transgender health issues will no longer be classified as mental and behavioral disorders, according to the new World Health Organization (WHO) global manual of diagnoses.

The new version, titled ICD-11, removes Trans health issues from the chapter on mental and behavioral disorders and places them in the chapter on sexual health. A WHO spokesperson said the group now understands that Transgender is “not actually a mental health condition.”

Changes to the diagnostic manual were first discussed last year and approved at the World Health Assembly on May 25. Countries will have until January 2022 to put the changes in place.

In some countries, Japan for example, individuals currently need a mental health diagnosis to make a legally recognized change to their gender.

Dr. Lale Say, a reproductive health expert with WHO, said, “It was taken out from mental health disorders because we had a better understanding that this was not actually a mental health condition, and leaving it there was causing stigma. So in order to reduce the stigma, while also ensuring access to necessary health interventions, this was placed in a different chapter.”

Trans issues are now defined as “gender incongruence,” in other words “a marked and persistent incongruence between a person’s experienced gender and assigned sex.”

In the previous version of the manual, ICD-10, this was considered a gender identity disorder and treated in the chapter entitled “Mental and Behavioral Disorders.”

Commenting on the revisions, Graeme Reid, LGBT rights director for Human Rights Watch, said the changes would have a “liberating effect on transgender people worldwide.”

“Governments should swiftly reform national medical systems and laws that require this now officially outdated diagnosis,” he added.

Nine organizations working on gender identity issues said in a joint statement, “It has taken us a long time to get here. Until a few years ago, removing pathologizing categories affecting Trans and genderdiverse people from the ICD-10 list of mental disorders seemed impossible.

“Today, we know that full depathologization can be achieved and will be achieved in our lifetime.”

The statement added that “although placement in this chapter is an improvement, it is by no means perfect. For example, it is somewhat reductive to define Trans health as related only to sexual health.’’

HIV, and women, all of whom already face frequent and pervasive discrimination when seeking health care,” said Hector Vargas, executive director of GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality. “The denial-of-care rule also stands in direct conflict with the Joint Commission and the major medical and health professional associations representing physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, social workers, and other health care providers that have adopted standards to ensure [that] all patients, including LGBTQ patients, are treated with respect and without bias and discrimination. The rule endangers the lives of LGBTQ people by putting their health at risk and must be invalidated immediately.”

“The Center on Halsted is committed to the right to bodily autonomy, whether for a transgender individual seeking health care or a person seeking reproductive health care,” said Center on Halsted CEO Modesto Valle. “We have fought long and hard for the rights of LGBTQ people to live free from harm, particularly when the systems that should be providing safety nets fail us. This is one of those times. This denial-of-care rule is the latest in attacks on the LGBTQ community by the current administration. The Center on Halsted

Downtown Seattle, 4th Ave at Union St. The 45th annual Seattle Pride Parade includes more than 200 participating groups and 60,000 individuals marching in support of LGBTQ pride. This year the parade will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, which became a national movement and eventually led to marches around the country, including the first Seattle Pride march in 1974 – which has been held in late June ever since to commemorate the June 28th Stonewall Riots.
