by Jenny Durkan Mayor of Seattle Our friend Barbara Bailey died this [past Labor Day] weekend, and Seattle grew suddenly dimmer. Few things challenge our sense of mortality and purpose more than the death of someone who seemed immortal.

Barbara was such a person. Born and raised here, she loved Seattle and poured herself into making it better. Barbara was relentless in everything she did. Her determination was a strength and was her most defining characteristic.

Peter Tatchell, Director of the Peter Tatchell Foundation: “This historic legal ruling sets free from criminalization almost one-fifth of the world’s LGBT+ people. It is the biggest, most impactful gay law reform in human history.

by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer Labor Day lived up to its name this year, as hundreds of Westin Hotel workers and supporters rallied outside the hotel, with some blocking Fifth Avenue till they were arrested by police.

The Labor Day protest was the latest in a long series of local and national escalations between hotel workers represented by UNITE HERE and the Marriott corporation, which now owns the Westin. Besides the demonstration in Seattle,
