by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer The Seattle City Council voted unanimously on August 1 to ban conversion therapy for minors. The new law creates civil penalties for
practicing conversion therapy within the Seattle city limits: a $500 fine for the first offense and $1,000 for every subsequent violation. It will be enforced by the City’s Office of Civil Rights, either on the complaint of someone subjected to conversion therapy

by Albert Rodriguez SGN Staff Writer One of the most distinct contingents participating in the 2016 Summer Olympics doesn’t represent any particular sport or country. They represent themselves, but together they represent a community.
A record 43 publicly out LGBT athletes, from many different nations, are competing in Rio de Janeiro during the next two weeks in a variety of events. Eight of them represent Team USA and all are women: Seimone Augustus, Elena Delle Donne, Brittney Griner, and Angel McCoughtry see OLYMPICS page 8

by Shaun Knittel SGN Associate Editor Something terrible happened five years ago in a Seattle penthouse. A twoyear-old child was found dead in a master bedroom bathroom. His throat had been slashed from ear to ear. A 30-year-old man was found, also stabbed to death, lying on
the living room floor. They had both been killed more than 24 hours before their bodies were discovered. The killer: the man’s long-term partner and the small boy’s father, Dr. Louis Chen.
