SEATTLE (July 13, 2020) – In recent weeks, [Seattle Police Department (SPD)] Chief Carmen Best and I [Mayor Durkan] have taken a hard look at the Seattle Police Department’s budget and made a series of changes to policing. We believe we can build a new model for community safety in Seattle by reimagining our approach to policing and investing deeply in community.
