Marriage equality in Costa Rica
4th Circuit Court hears Trans restroom appeal

by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer Costa Rica saw its first same-sex marriages on May 26, as the result of a court ruling that limitations on marriage rights were unconstitutional.
A lesbian couple, Daritza Araya and Alexandra Qu Castillo, became the first to be married in a ceremony that took place just after the new law came into effect at midnight. Their wedding was broadcast on national TV.

by Mike Andrew SGN Staff Writer The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals heard a key Transgender rights case on May 26, setting the stage for a ruling on how school districts must accommodate Trans students.
Gavin Grimm – at the time a high school student in the Gloucester County, Virginia, school district – informed school authorities of his gender identity and asked them to accommodate him under Title IX of the Education Act amendments, adopted in 1975.
