SGN exclusive interview with Gay Seattle man who witnessed it all by Shaun Knittel SGN Associate Editor On April 25, a powerful 7.8 earthquake hit Nepal, killing more than 6,200 people and causing widespread damage to the Capitol City of Kathmandu. In seconds, buildings were destroyed, lives ruined and fear and uncertainty blanketed Kathmandu. Nearly 8 months ago Carson Cook, 29, moved to Kathmandu with his friend and business partner Briton Stender to bring part of their credit card and financial services company, StenCo Payments to Nepal. Cook lived in Seattle for many years; handsome and likable, Cook eventually became a well-known bartender at Neighbours Nightclub where he helped raise money for local charities and community groups by participating in fundraisers, pageants and more. I’ve known Cook since 2009 and we became good friends over the years. He was always a good sport about community events so it didn’t surprise me when he agreed to help raise money for the nonprofit Social Outreach Seattle, of which I am president, by

participating in a male underwear model contest. He did a fantastic job! But that’s who he is. He is helpful, polite and caring. I was so happy for him when he told me he’d made the decision to move to Nepal. I mean, c’mon, that is a once in a lifetime adventure and I told him, “do it!” when he asked me what I thought about his decision. Nepal is a landlocked country in the Himalayas located in South Asia. It borders China, India, and is separated from Bangladesh by the narrow Indian Siliguri Corridor
