by Eric Andrews-Katz SGN A&E Writer A ROOM WITH A VIEW, THE MUSICAL THE 5TH AVENUE THEATRE Through May 11 Louis Hobson is a great example of Hometown Boy Does Well! Originally from Washington state, Mr. Hobson studied acting at the local Pacific Lutheran University before heading out to the Great White Way and making a name for himself in the (originally local) Pulitzer Prize winning musical, Next to Normal. Now this talented man is living back in Seattle as the Artistic Director of The Balagan Theatre and performing on stage at The 5th Avenue Theatre’s debut musical, A Room With a View. Eric Andrews-Katz: Who were your earliest influences in becoming a performer? Louis Hobson: It varies, I suppose. I would have to say that grow-

has compiled jams from the early millennium. Remember how awesome that music was?! Doors open at 9 p.m. And although Neighbours usually closes at 2 a.m. on Thursday nights, “HollaBack” will keep the party going until 3 a.m. ever week. The night also features $4 double wells all night long and all for just a $3 cover – free before 10 p.m. Seattle Gay News caught up with Isaac Scott on opening night to discuss her career choice, the Gayborhood, and why she doesn’t mind if you call her a “HollaBack” Girl.

After seven years performing in “An Evening at Le Faux,” the wildly successful female celebrity impersonation show at Julia’s on Broadway, superstar drag queen Isaac Scott is going to do something she has never done before – headline a weekly show at the legendary Neighbours Nightclub (1509 Broadway). “HollaBack Thursdays,” produced by Sinfinite Productions (“ElektroPop,” “Mischief”), debuted April 17, officially taking over Thursday Isaac told SGN that “HollaBack nights at Neighbours from the iconic 17 year-old “Rock Lobster” ‘80s Thursdays” is “such a wonderful dance night. Isaac Scott is the host opportunity.” of “HollaBack” and DJ Bret Law see Isaac page 8

A busy day at Julia’s on Broadway

by Shaun Knittel SGN Associate Editor It wasn’t that long ago when, on a Sunday, the Gays had to search high and low for somewhere to be for brunch – or Gay lunch, as some people call it – whether nursing a hangover, meeting up with family and friends, or all of the above. And the reality of it all is, is that there just wasn’t anything good happening to justify a queen going out of her way to spend any amount of money on breakfast food – until Mama Tits started her “Mimosas with Mama” and all hell broke

loose on Sunday afternoons. There have been some who tried it, and it didn’t stick. There have also been many who dared not try it, knowing that, for their venue, it wouldn’t stick. I’m talking about Gay Brunch, of course. The ingredients are simple: Drag Queen(s), a DJ or sound technician, mildly good breakfast grub and – Boom! – you’re in business! Only … it isn’t that simple at all, is it? So I applaud the shows and the people in those shows that have been able to hang on, through all kinds of fair-weather brunch eaters, a great recession, and an ever-

changing neighborhood with its demands for quality and quantity – at a discount price, of course! So when I heard that Eladio Preciado and Karsten Bedt, owners of Julia’s on Broadway and creators of “Le Faux,” Seattle’s best female celebrity impersonation show, were putting together a Sunday brunch that was scheduled to take on “Mimosas With Mama,” I thought, “Well, this is going to get interesting.” I didn’t think that because I particularly care about Hill politics, and who likes who, and all that nonsee Julia’s page 8
