Alvin represented the Caribbean at the 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony and remains Australia’s Ambassador of the Steel Drum. “The more of Alvin’s story I heard the more I could see the reflection of his story in a rapidly changing societal landscape that provided a backdrop to each part of his life, the opportunity, the expansion, the serendipity he experienced all reflect the greater changes in the world at that time.”

The successful applicants will share in $36,012 through round 2 of the 2024–2025 RADF program, which is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Redland City Council.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said the program highlighted the significance of arts and culture on Redlands Coast.
“Council offers two rounds of RADF funding each year to support both professional and emerging artists and art workers,” the Mayor said.
“The projects that are funded help to foster a thriving creative community that encourages partnerships and skills development.”
RADF Assessment Panel chair Cr Shane Rendalls said the program aimed to support a diverse range of artistic projects with a focus on inclusivity, accessibility and community engagement.
“In this latest round, funding has been allocated towards an interpretive exhibition that shares the community’s stories on the experiences of Tropical Cyclone Alfred on North Stradbroke Island,” Cr Rendalls said.
“There’s also a theatre production aimed at youth audiences that supports safe artistic expression among young people, and a series of community vocal workshops that bring together people of all ages and backgrounds.”
RADF Assessment Panel member Cr Paul Bishop said the program also aimed to support the activation of creative experiences that transcended traditional boundaries.
More information on the RADF program and successful applicants is available on Council’s Grants and sponsorship webpage.

BUDGET BOOSTS SAFETY AT QLD HOSPITALS
The Crisafulli Government is delivering safer hospital across Queensland, with Budget funding of $8.7 million going towards boosting hospital security for staff and patients.
The 2025-26 Budget lays the foundations for a fresh start to help heal Labor’s Health Crisis with a fully-funded Hospital Rescue Plan, more free healthcare under the Easier Access to Health Services Plan and a record $33.1 billion heath investment across the State.
The $8.7 million Budget funding will boost the Healthcare Ambassador workforce and provide additional resources for Healthcare Security Officers.
The funding also builds on measures that are currently being rolled out by the Crisafulli Government, including the delivery of body-worn cameras for all security staff, more CCTV, and establishing fixed duress alarms.
The Crisafulli Government’s security investment to ensure staff and patients are kept safe, sits alongside the $18.5 billion fully-funded Hospital Rescue Plan which will deliver 2,600 new beds across Queensland, three new and 10 expanded hospitals, and new and upgraded health and ambulance facilities.
This includes $1.3 billion allocated for new and expanded car parks, including at Redcliffe, to provide safe and affordable car parking for patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
The Budget is also delivering funding to grow our health workforce by 46,000 health professionals by 2032, including more than 4,500 additional staff in the next year.
Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Tim Nicholls said the funding would go towards an additional 12 Security Ambassadors to be recruited across Queensland’s Hospital and Health Services.
“We are delivering the fully-funded Hospital Rescue Plan and Easier Access to Health Services right across Queensland,” Minister Nicholls said.
“Our Security Ambassadors are specially-trained officers who play an integral role in building relationships with patients and visitors and assisting clinical staff to de-escalate situations by acting early to help anyone they see becoming agitated or distressed.

BUDGET DELIVERS MORE SURGERIES SOONER FOR
The Crisafulli Government is delivering health services when Queenslanders need them, with a record investment into elective surgeries, to stabilise the elective surgery waitlist.
$1.8 billion will be invested over four years to boost the number of elective surgeries across the State, as part of the Crisafulli Government’s plan to heal Labor’s Health Crisis.
The Crisafulli Government’s 2025-26 Budget builds on the successful Surgery Connect Surge, with 12,000 extra surgeries referred to the program between February and June 30 this year.
The program was also responsible for the single largest decrease in the elective surgery waitlist in the past decade – when the wait list number dropped by
2,750 in April. The downward trend continuing in May, with a further drop of 1,495.
Under the former Labor Government, the number of Queenslanders waiting for elective surgery doubled and the Crisafulli Government has committed to stabilising the waitlist by Christmas, restoring health services when Queenslanders need them most. Surgery Connect is expected to deliver 30,000 elective surgeries in 2025-26 alone, including hip and knee replacements and cataract surgery.
The Crisafulli Government’s Budget also delivers record funding to public health services with a fullyfunded Hospital Rescue Plan, which will provide more than 2,600 new beds statewide, three new and 10 expanded hospitals, and new and upgraded health and ambulance facilities.
The Budget is also delivering funding to grow our health workforce by 46,000 health professionals by 2032, including more than 4,500 additional staff in the next year.
