ACTION PLANS TO GUIDE ONGOING DAMAGE RECOVERY FROM TC ALFRED
Redland City Council has endorsed two action plans that will guide the ongoing recovery from Tropical Cyclone Alfred and ensure the Redlands Coast community is prepared for future severe weather events.
Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group Chair Jos Mitchell said the plans, endorsed at this month’s General Meeting of Council, included medium and long-term recovery goals to support the environment, community, economy, city infrastructure and waste, and roads and transport.
“The Local Recovery Group (LRG) has now been ‘stood down’ and both plans will be delivered utilising existing resources across Council and other agencies as part of the transition back to business as usual,” the Mayor said.
“The plans include objectives to help us build back stronger, strengthen our Community Champions and city-wide SES networks, and ensure residents are prepared for future weather events. Advocacy for Queensland Government investment in our future disaster management needs is already underway.
“The objectives will be monitored by the LRG, with reports provided to the Redland City Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) and Queensland Reconstruction Authority at key milestones.”
Across the four-month recovery period so far, the LRG has conducted more than
3000 safety checks on Council assets, collected in excess of 40 tonnes of food and odorous waste, supported 4600plus residents at local Community Recovery Hubs, and connected with 500 impacted businesses.
This 300-page autobiography, “Carnival is Me” traces the life experiences of one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most talented exports. Aldwyn Rostant, known as Alvin, is a professional musician, pannist, award winning steel pan composer and arranger, MC and entertainer residing in Australia. The steelpan is a musical instrument originating in Trinidad and Tobago.
“These outcomes have been a collective effort, with the LRG supported by other levels of government, key stakeholders across various sectors, community groups, and of course the city’s Council teams,” the

Alvin has toured the USA, Canada and the South Pacific with Amral Khan’s Trinidad Calypso Cavaliers. He also held an Intercollege Soccer Record which was only equalled in November 2020. He was the only person to have scored in two inter-college soccer finals in 1969 and 1971, which makes him part of a rare group of players to have accomplished this feat.

Alvin received the Australian Prime Minister’s Award for Community in 2001 for Mission Australia’s project ‘Beat of the Drum’, which was written and

The Crisafulli Government is delivering further cost of living support through its SwimStart program, with Round 3 opening on 28 July.
The SwimStart program is designed to help cover the cost of lessons for eligible children aged 0-4 years, with vouchers valued at up to $150.
Swimming remains one of Queensland’s biggest sports for kids, and lessons from an early age support an introduction to physical activity.
Parents and carers will have until June 2026 to redeem their vouchers.
Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games
Tim Mander urged all eligible families to apply.
“The SwimStart program sets our youngest Queenslanders up to learn the necessary skills to become confident swimmers,” Minister Mander said.
“Swimming is a huge part of the Queensland lifestyle, so it’s important that our kids learn about water safety from a young age.”
“I strongly encourage all eligible families to take advantage of the program and apply for SwimStart vouchers.
