Harriet Seizes English Title Y11 student Harriet Akeroyd has recently claimed the English Championship title for Taekwondo. She competes in the black belt middle weight cadets category. This result follows her successfully competing at the British Championships in November 2011 where she beat off stiff competition to become British Champion – for the second time in 3 years since becoming a 1st Dan black belt. Harriet started Taekwondo in 2006 in Settle and achieved her 1st Dan Black Belt in October 2009. She has had outstanding success on the National Taekwondo Association of Great Britain (T.A.G.B.) competition circuit winning medals regularly since 2006. Harriet specialises in the individual sparring element of the martial art which involves light contact sparring. Points are scored for punches and kicks to the body or head of your opponent. Harriet is also one of 3 members of the Three Lions tag team who are the current World Champions in the girls’ black Belt category. These results have come through hard work and determination. Harriet currently trains 3 times a week at Mr Beanland’s Taekwondo School of Excellence in Keighley. Mr Beanland is a 6th Dan International Instructor. Following Harriet’s move to train with him in September 2011 she is undefeated in competition, has been training with the Great Britain National senior squad and recently qualified as an Umpire for National competitions. TAGB Taekwondo teaches traditional Taekwondo and is built upon 5 tenets of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit. Students follow these tenets throughout their training and daily life and learn self defence techniques as well as structured moves and, of course, fitness and general well being.
