Graduation and Tour

As a member of the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC), Seprod has benefitted from alliances promoting the use of USAbased soybean oil. The SBO Masters Program, a first of its kind for employees and customers, widened the knowledge of the product and understanding of the full supply chain and sustainability claims of its participants.

Participants from various sectors eagerly participated in a trade mission to Indiana USA. During the visit, they toured Corteva Agriscience, experienced a high oleic demonstration at Gainbridge Fieldhouse home of the Indiana Pacers and observed operations at Bunge and Sheller Farms. The Gainbridge Fieldhouse caterers, who use high oleic soybean oil for over 600 events annually, incorporated this into their lunch menu, demonstrating its practical applications. The itinerary also included visits to the Indiana Soybean Alliance, Beck’s Hybrids, Cox Farms, and

a BBQ Reception at Howell Farm. These engagements provided invaluable insights into soybean production, processing, and industry best practices.

Indiana Soybean Alliance Chair Kevin Cox, a farmer from Clay County, welcomed the third class of graduates from the Soybean Oil Masters Program. “You have joined an elite group of only 1,000 graduates from around the world. Your region has shown a particular dedication to soybean oil knowledge and growth, “he said. The Jamaican participants created much excitement at the graduation ceremony, where they felt honoured to receive a

certificate of completion. This event underscored the educational and developmental achievements of the program.

The collaboration between Seprod, CPL, and USSEC anticipates a profound impact on the Jamaican industry, fostering expertise, innovation, and international partnerships. The commitment to excellence and continuous improvement highlights Seprod’s motto, “Made by Seprod, must be good.”

The Art of Taking Exams Workshop

As 123 grades 10-13 students of the Denham Town High School prepared for their CXC Examinations, the Seprod Foundation partnered with Dr. Karla Hylton of the YES Institute to host a workshop entitled “The Art of Taking Exams”.

On April 16, the students sat in a comprehensive session designed to equip students with the necessary strategies for exam success.

I am happy for this session today. It has helped me to be more confident in doing my upcoming exams.

Girls in ICT Day

On April 25, in celebrating Girls in ICT Day, The Seprod Foundation partnered with Arel Limited to empower girls at the St Aloysius Primary. Through this initiative, we

introduced the girls to the exciting world of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and highlighted the vast opportunities available in this field.

Representatives engaged the students with interactive sessions, sharing their experiences and insights to motivate the girls to explore and pursue careers in ICT.

I didn’t know girls could be engineers, so seeing a female engineer was cool.

Read Across Jamaica Day

Read Across Jamaica Day is observed islandwide and encourages children to build a healthy habit of reading. This year, volunteers from the Seprod Group read to students at the Edward Seaga Primary, Union Gardens Infant, North Street Primary, Tarrant Primary, Seaforth Primary, and Linstead Primary. This experience was really great, I now know the meanings of some of the key terms that they use to ask the exam questions and the best ways to answer them.

In addition, through a partnership with the Jamaica Trade Board, we engaged in this initiative at St. Aloysius Primary and St. George’s Primary schools. Representatives from the Seprod Group and Jamaica Trade Board not only read to the children but also shared a PEP activity relating to trade with Grade 4 students in preparation for their PEP exam.

The Seprod Foundation also donated books to each of the schools that our volunteers visit.

Oxford

Code Jamaica Expo: WRO Jamaica Future Innovators + Veggie Mania Challenge

George Headley Primary School emerged as the standout performer at the inaugural Code Jamaica Expo featuring the Future Innovators category of the World Robot Olympiad Jamaica (WRO Jamaica), a project based robotics competition and exhibition. The competition is part of Code Jamaica suite of programmes organized by Halls of Learning and supported by the Seprod Foundation, Musson Foundation and the American Friends of Jamaica. The Kingston-based primary school ‘Tech-Titans’ A team secured the top prize, while the B team took third place. Reach Academy’s ‘Thunderbolts’ team placed second.

The WRO Jamaica Future Innovators encourages students to develop project based robotic solutions addressing real-world challenges aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 9 teams participated showcasing their robotic solutions for real-world problems centered around this year’s theme of Earth Allies: Sustainable Future and Force of Nature. Each team researched and constructed functional robots tailored to address specific societal challenges.

The Code Jamaica Expo also featured the Veggie Mania Championships where students used real-time coding to programme their robots to compete in head-to-head missions. Robo Swans of St. Hugh’s Preparatory clinched the championship!

I have never seen anything like this, it was cool. I am excited to go back to school and work on my coding to be better for next year.

It is still being predicted that

THE 2024 HURRICANE SEASON WILL BE VERY ACTIVE

THE INTENSELY ACTIVE HURRICANE SEASON PREDICTIONS ARE BASED ON:

The extremely warm sea surface / water temperature across the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The water temperature (82 F) at the start of this season is what we typically see around August. Warm sea temperatures provide energy to fuel the intensity of the hurricanes.

The extremely warm air temperature across the region. Rising, hot air will produce more storms.
