Higher education is changing. Our strategy is a coherent response to this important challenge. It’s also something that we want everyone to share and support. This document will help you communicate our strategy and use it in your daily work.
Our Guiding Approach
Our guiding approach underpins our strategy. Developed over many months, and the result of data analysis and cross-college collaboration, our guiding approach means that Seminole State College will:
“Shift towards focusing activities on career development tailored to meet the evolving needs of the workforce in an efficient manner. By fostering a career-long relationship with Central Florida residents, Seminole State will position itself as a trusted partner throughout individuals’ career journeys. Embedded in this approach is the acknowledgement of the importance and value of traditional academic disciplines in the arts and sciences to foster change resilience, while prioritizing practical, job-relevant employment skills necessary for success in a rapidly evolving job market.”
Strategy Statement:
“Seminole State is your learning partner for career success.”
Under this strategy, we will develop institutional capacities and capabilities to manage change in a dynamic world, effectively use technology to differentiate us, practice strategic decisionmaking and collaboration, innovate and experiment, boldly listen and connect, celebrate our wins, and increase individual accountability and trust.

Sustaining Our Strategy
For strategies to be successful they need to be part of our regular work. Consider the following guiding questions to get the conversation started in department and individual meetings:
• What are you currently doing that aligns with the strategy? How can you build on these activities?
• Can you focus more closely on career development including the development of soft skills?
• How might you collaborate with other departments? Is there a common issue you can solve together for students or employees? How will you get this work started?
• What decisions can you make now based on our guiding approach and strategy? What can you do in the future?
• How will you be accountable to others for your strategic choices and actions and communicate them effectively?
More Information
Implementing our strategy is a personal, team, department, division and college-wide pursuit. It is vital to ensure that Seminole State College continues to be a high achieving and effective institution in the top one percent of community colleges in the nation. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact your supervisor.
• Be accountable for the whole, not just your team, department, or division. Look at things with the good of the College as a whole in mind.
• Be fully present and listen carefully for the fundamental cares embedded in a request or concern. Be curious.
• Speak from “the court” rather than “the stands.” Don’t sit on the sidelines—get into the action. Speak and act as if you are a player, not a fan.
• Be open. Say what is on your mind to support strong decision-making while treating one another with respect.
• Collaborate—don’t compete. Accomplish results through collaboration with others.
