Attention to Detail

When activities become routine in the work place, overlooking the little things or details can happen to any of us. With a second look, many times distractions or major disregard to care and with no consideration to the consequences are to blame.

No job is routine. No job in linework is ever the same. Humans become lazy or take a path of less resistance to do daily task. If, and when too many are taken, sometimes costly events happen.

Ask yourself these questions:

How many times do you double or even triple check your work?

How many days have you not checked the vehicle before driving it?

Have you ever left your safety-fall harness open between your legs?

Have you ever left your tools or keys behind after driving off?

How often do you back-up without a spotter?

Its up to you and each crew member to help each other to remember to check, think, and double-check "the next move"

USE YOUR CHECKLIST EVERYDAY!

This month I am looking forward to our Sidebar with SELCAT at our south Florida yard. This meeting is to talk about what’s new with SELCAT and to answer questions regarding apprentice evaluations, testing and other apprentice matters.

It is a meeting where we will concentrate on explaining the SELCAT process to the many new Forman and above to ensure that all our apprentices get their evaluations and upgrades on time Also, to explain TradeSchool and how it works.

We understand that many know the processes of SELCAT, we want to make certain that everyone understands the process and what better way to do it than to have a sidebar with SELCAT and to hear it directly from SELCAT.

This is the first of many to come, we are happy to hear from you and see you soon!

Stay Safe and God Bless!

Jawan Richardson

6th Step Apprentice-Local 222

We all know hard hard linework can be on our families. Recently on a Friday, our office called apprentice Jawan Richardson to send him out for work that Monday. Jawan answered the phone while at the hospital with his wife having the newest addition to their family! Without hesitation Jawan said he would be there! This is the kind of dedication and sacrifice, not only from Jawan, but his entire family, that we often see in this trade! We just wanted to give a "spotlight" to him and his family and say congratulations.

"I first met Jawan at his interview here at SELCAT. What sticks out in my mind about this day was the way that Jawan "dressed to impress". I vividly remember he was wearing a blue and white plaid button down shirt tucked into his jeans with a nice belt and full quill ostrich skin cowboy boots. Jawan has always been very respectful, even during times of frustration, with the apprenticeship. Always a "yes ma'am" and a "have a blessed day" at the end of every conversation. I just cannot say enough good things about this young man "

"Jawan attends my weekend classes here in Florida. He has been a model student and I see him doing very well in this trade and going far."
