Substation rules are strictly enforced by the governing utility or municipality, known as the Designated Authority. This is a guide that outlines the basic requirements for personnel entering and working in a substation. Substations have exposed energized bus work, which is alot of times found in low proximity to the ground. Extreme care should be taken when moving equipment or materials in close proximity to all bus work. And with Substation work on the rise, here are a few tips to help keep safe while working in a Substation!
Before entering a Substation, contact the Designated Authority on a daily basis.
Contractor Personnel
Only authorized personnel are allowed on the site.
Know your contact person for the utility or municipality.
Know the contact person’s phone number and the project manager.
All gates must be locked when working at and leaving the site.
Obey all policies report any suspicious activity observed, or safety problems.
Adhere to and follow minimum clearances from energized equipment.
Any damage to the Substation property should be reported promptly!
