At Seed Effect we believe refuge is not meant to be the end goal. Restoration is. When you support Seed Effect, you are promoting restoration for tens of thousands of South Sudanese refugees and Ugandans! Thank you for making this work possible! While Q3 brought much to celebrate as we hear story after story just like Josephine’s (below), we are also facing the reality that the demand for our program is everincreasing. We know our program is working and now we must continue to grow! Our goal, for 2023, is to empower 17,500 new members. Because of your support, to date, we have served 12,547 new members!

A STORY OF RESTORATION I have been in many saving groups since I came to the settlement but I never realized the importance of saving. I was just joining savings groups for the sake of getting support not actually having a plan of saving money for my future. When I heard about Seed Effect Uganda, I was happy thinking that I was going to get a handout from them. Surprisingly, they introduced their program to us and said they were not giving handouts, but rather emphasized hard work and setting plans for one’s self so as to achieve targets. They also encouraged us with the word of God. I was moved and I accepted to join the group. In only two saving meetings, I saw the impact of the group both physically and spiritually. I started to set a target for myself to achieve by the end of the year and I became a good planner for my family. I learned that the hand that gives receives because I realized that I also have the ability to help others who are in need through my weekly emergency fund contribution. The members are always stress-free whenever we are in the group because of the encouragement and hope given to us during the savings and loan meetings, so much so that whenever we gather for meetings we do not want them to end!

IT’S WORKING - DATA DRIVEN RESULTS We survey our members at the beginning and end of each savings cycle to measure the impact of our program across several poverty metrics. One of the most important data sets we evaluate is asset preservation. It is common for our members to report that, prior to joining Seed Effect, they were forced to sell off income generating assets to pay for healthcare and school fees. The charts below reflect the change in asset preservation as members are now able to utilize group loans, business income, or savings to pay for those expenses.
